Tragic Mistaken Identity: Lebogang Kgomo Killed in Tembisa

A devastating incident has shaken the community of Tembisa, Gauteng, after 25-year-old Lebogang Kgomo was brutally assaulted and killed by community leaders who mistook him for a thief. The tragic event has sparked widespread outrage and calls for justice.

The Fateful Night

On Sunday, November 17, Lebogang had been enjoying a few beers at a local tavern. As he navigated the streets, he lost his balance and leaned on a neighbor’s gate, causing it to rattle. The house owners, suspecting him of attempting to jump the fence to commit robbery, informed community leaders, who allegedly assaulted Lebogang without seeking any explanation.

A Senseless Killing

Despite Lebogang’s pleas for help, the community leaders continued to beat him, ignoring his father’s attempts to intervene. The assault was so severe that Lebogang was left hospitalized, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Justice Demanded

The Kgomo family is demanding justice for Lebogang’s senseless killing. “Jail is where they belong. Lebogang wasn’t found with any dangerous object,” said family spokeswoman Kwena Kgomo. The family is outraged that the community leaders took the law into their own hands, resulting in the tragic loss of Lebogang’s life.

Arrests Made

Four community leaders have been arrested and charged with Lebogang’s murder. Ekurhuleni district police spokeswoman Captain Nelda Sekgobela confirmed that the arrests are related to the victim’s murder.

A Promising Life Cut Short

Lebogang was a mechanical engineering student at Daveyton TVET College, with a promising future ahead of him. His sister, Mmanku Kgomo, described him as a frail person who was known to the community leaders since childhood. “They knew he was a mechanical engineering student, not a thug,” she said.

Community Reaction

The community of Tembisa is still reeling from the shock of Lebogang’s killing. Many have taken to social media to express their outrage and demand justice for the Kgomo family.

Conclusion

The senseless killing of Lebogang Kgomo has sent shockwaves through the community of Tembisa. As the family demands justice, it is a stark reminder of the dangers of vigilantism and the importance of upholding the law. Lebogang will be laid to rest this weekend in Limpopo.
