Miss SA runner up Bryoni Govender was crowned Miss Supranational Africa 2024, at the finale of the pageant on Saturday 6 July in Nowy Sącz, Lesser Poland, Poland.

South Africa bagged two big wins in Poland this week. On Thursday 4 July, Dr Fezile Mkhize was crowned Mister Supranational. Bryoni made it through to the Top 12, but not the Top 5.

Andrea Aguilera of Ecuador passed down her crown to engineering student, Harashta Haifa Zahra of Indonesia. However, awards were still presented to those who achieved the highest ranking per continent excluding those in the Top 5. enna Dykstra from the USA and Justýna Zedníková from the Czech Republic were crowned first and second runner ups, respectively.

Bryoni bagged the Miss Supranational Africa title, while the other continent winners were:

  • Andrea Sáenz of Mexico for the Americas
  • Alethea Ambrosio of the Philippines for Asia and Oceania
  • Fiorella Medina of Porto Rico for the Caribbean
  • Victoria Larsen of Denmark for Europe

South Africa’s Lalela Mswane made history at the pageant in 2022. She was the first Miss South Africa to be crowned Miss Supranational, and the first black woman to be crowned Miss Supranational. Lalela was also the first woman to wear the new Ricardo crown. She was also the second runner up at the Miss Universe pageant in December 2021, which sparked controversy in South Africa.

While Mkhize made Mister Supranational history this year as he became the first black male to win the pageant and the first South African to be crowned Mister Supranational.

Bryoni previously told The South African that it has been an honour and blessing to represent South Africa at two international pageants.

“It feels unreal, it’s such an incredible honour, a blessing and a testament to the hard work and dedication that I have put into my journey. It feels surreal to have the opportunity to represent South Africa on such a global stage once again. I am immensely grateful for all the support that has come my way thus far,” she said exclusively to The South African.

“This experience has taught me so much about resilience, determination, and the benefits of putting my best in everything I do,” she continued.
