Skeem Saam Actress Amanda Manku’s Father to Spend Christmas Behind Bars

A tragic turn of events has shaken the South African entertainment industry, as Amanda Manku’s father, William Manku, faces serious charges for allegedly orchestrating the murder of his wife, Gladys Manku, and mother-in-law, Letty Maphothoma.

The Incident

In May 2021, Gladys Manku (45) and Letty Maphothoma (70) were fatally shot while returning home after collecting water. William Manku, a former SAPS officer, and his co-accused, David Khoza (40), face charges including conspiracy to commit murder, robbery with aggravated circumstances, attempted murder, two counts of murder, and defeating the ends of justice.

Trial and Denial of Bail

The trial is scheduled for February 10-21, 2025, at the Polokwane High Court in Limpopo. William Manku has been denied bail three times, with the court citing the seriousness of the charges and risk of flight or witness interference.

Confession and Investigation

During his first bail application, the investigating officer revealed William Manku’s confession, where he admitted to orchestrating Letty Maphothoma’s murder but claimed he did not intend to kill his wife.

Family Dynamics

Amanda Manku has spoken publicly about her grief and anger, describing her father as her “pillar of strength” before his arrest. The case has highlighted a strained relationship between Amanda and her father.

Impact on Amanda Manku

In an interview with Pasi Koetle, Amanda shared her emotional struggle, saying: “When you lose your mother, it’s something else worse… I was angry and would shout in my prayers.”

Conclusion

As William Manku spends Christmas behind bars, Amanda Manku and her family continue to grapple with the aftermath of this tragic event.
