Skeem Saam actor – Men, protect your wives!
ACTOR Clement Maosa, who plays Kwaito on SABC1’s Skeem Saam, is currently navigating a compelling storyline that explores tension between family loyalty and marital responsibilities.
In an interview on Thobela FM on Monday night, Clement (36), together with his on-screen wife Amanda Manku (33), discussed challenges their characters face, particularly focusing on how Kwaito, a Pedi man, struggles to assert himself in his marriage due to respect and influence his mum holds over him.
Clement highlighted cultural behaviours that shape his character’s journey, speaking about the importance of men learning to stand up for their marriages and wives, despite family expectations.
“Skeem Saam is a show that teaches young people and the nation about a lot of social issues. If you grew up in Limpopo, you’d know that you’ll always be a mama’s boy. So, it takes time for some married men to leave their mums and start their lives with their wives. That’s what Kwaito finds himself going through,” he said.
Defending his character, Clement said some men struggle to sit their parents down and tell them they’re wrong because they respect them.
“We grew up respecting our mums and it was difficult to tell our parents they’re wrong. Sometimes, it takes time to find a way to address issues with them,” he said.

He also gave advice to married men who might find themselves putting their wives under pressure to conceive, like his character.
“Marriage and babies come from God, and we only dream to have that. If you’ve found someone you’ve met and want to be with, be patient and other things will come later,” he said.
He also urged men not to let other parties or family members dictate their marriage.
“They should ignore the notice from relatives when they ask them when they’ll be making babies. That doesn’t involve them, it should be between two people in the marriage.”
Amanda Manku said what the show teaches people about struggles some married women go through in marriages.
