Limpopo-born artist Shebeshxt was involved in a car accident that claimed the life of his daughter, Onthatile Chuene, last month.

Rapper Shebeshxt is recovering at home after being discharged from the hospital on Tuesday, 2 July.

The controversial musician was involved in a car accident on the R37 road next to Smelters Mine in Limpopo on 8 June. The horrific crash sadly took the life of his eight-year-old daughter, Onthatile Chuene.


Shebeshxt’s lawyer, Lot Ramusi, told Sunday World that rapper still has a long journey to recovery, hiwdver, he is hopeful.

“He is out of the hospital. He was discharged yesterday. He is recovering at home, and he is getting better,” Ramusi said.

He further added that the musician is coming to terms with his daughter’s passing.

“He is coming to terms with everything. He was obviously shaken by everything, but he is slowly coming to terms with the situation.”

Shebeshxt was with his child, as well as her mother, Kholofelo Chuene, when his Volkswagen Polo crashed into a truck and overturned.

The Twerka hitmaker suffered a broken leg, abdominal fracture, and head injuries. He was sent to the Netcare Pholoso Hospital after allegedly being left unattended at a public hospital.

Meanwhile, Kholofelo was hospitalised as she sustaining moderate injuries.


Onthatile was buried two weeks after the accident.

In an emotional letter at his daughter’s funeral, Shebeshxt wrote: “You left a huge void in our hearts. I don’t think we will ever recover from this.

“We might seem strong, but deep down we wish we could wake up from this terrible nightmare and see your beautiful face and hear your wonderful voice saying, ‘Ke rata batswadi baka ka pelo ka moka’ (I love my parents wholeheartedly).”


The South African Police Services has launched a culpable homicide investigation following the car crash.

According to Limpopo police provincial spokesperson, Malesela Ledwaba, they have requested for statements from the Dilo Tse Massive rapper’s family and partner.

Ledwaba said it was standard procedure to investigate what could have led to the accident.

“The police must adhere to legal protocols and pro- cedures while conducting their investigation to ensure that the rights of all parties involved are respected and that the investigation is conducted fairly and in accordance with the law,” he said.
