Handre Pollard’s UK Plans in Question: What’s Next for His Family?

Springbok flyhalf Handre Pollard is living his dream playing for the UK club, Leicester Tigers. Meanwhile, his wife Marise – whose baby boy, Hunter, was born in England earlier this year- has stated that she “loves our little life on this side of the world.”

But could that all change when the popular player’s contract expires in a few months?

HANDRE POLLARD ON HIS ‘UNCERTAIN FUTURE’
Handre Pollard, his wife Marise, and their son Hunter live in a trendy home in Market Harborough, a village in Leicestershire, where he plays for his English club of Leicester Tigers.

According to reports, the club is unlikely to renew Pollard’s contract at the end of the 2024, 2025 season.

The Springbok signed to the club in 2022 on a R14 million a year contract. At the time, he told MailOnline,: ‘I’ve always wanted to come to England. I wanted to come here three years ago, but there wasn’t really the opportunity, so I had to go elsewhere”.

However, speaking to BBC Sport, Pollard revealed his future is “uncertain” amid reports that his contract will not be renewed.

When asked to confirm the reports, he said: “I have no idea. I can tell you the truth: I do not know yet what I’m doing or where I’m going. I’m just happy being at Leicester, and I will enjoy every minute I have here.”

Speaking to SuperSport TV after Leicester Tigers win against the Sharks over the weekend, Pollard – who was named Man of the Match – added of his “second home”: “There’s nothing like it. Its the most unbelievable place and its a priviledge to play here”.

WHERE TO NEXT?
As one of the highest-earning rugby players in South Africa, RugbyPass predicts that Handre Pollard may consider a move to Japan, given his financial expectations.

The 30-year-old has previously played for the Bulls in Pretoria, NTT Docomo Red Hurricanes in Japan, and Montpellier in France.

If he does move to Japan, he will join fellow Boks Faf de Klerk, Jesse Kriel, Damian De Allende, Franco Mostert, and, recently, Kurt-Lee Arendse.
