Gugu Gumede Addresses Speculation About Being Zuma’s Seventh Wife

Johannesburg – South African actress Gugu Gumede, best known for her role in *Isiphetho: The Destiny*, recently addressed rumors circulating on social media, claiming that she was set to marry former president Jacob Zuma as his seventh wife. These claims gained traction following a viral video on Facebook Reels that insinuated a wedding was imminent.

The video, which quickly spread online, featured a seemingly distraught Gugu mourning her mother’s death ahead of her “big day.” The accompanying caption read, “Next month is my wedding and you’re no more,” referring to her late mother. Additionally, the video included a photograph of Gugu and Zuma, further fueling speculation that the two were set to marry.

However, Gugu has categorically denied these rumors, calling the video a fabrication created by a fake Facebook account. She expressed frustration at the spread of misinformation, highlighting the harm that such false narratives can cause.

“I have many accounts that are fake. People create content using my name. Some are bored and don’t know how much damage they’re causing. It’s a pity there are still people who believe the accounts are real,” Gugu said, clearly upset by the situation. She noted that these fake accounts often amass thousands of followers, making it harder for the public to differentiate between legitimate content and fake news.

Gugu emphasized that her real social media accounts are strictly for sharing her professional work and projects. She uses the platforms to promote her acting roles, her weight loss journey, and other ventures but is very private about her personal life.

“If I’m really getting married, I wouldn’t share the news on social media. I only share my work stuff and promotions. I also share my weight loss journey and give tips and hope to those who wish to lose weight. Social media users who are following us must be careful and differentiate between real and fake,” she advised her followers.

The timing of the false rumors was particularly painful for Gugu, as her mother passed away in September 2022 at the age of 59 following complications from a stroke. Her mother had been wheelchair-bound before her passing, and Gugu has been open about the emotional toll her loss has had on her. The circulation of the fake wedding video only added to the grief and distress Gugu is still processing.

Unfortunately, Gugu is not the first South African celebrity to be targeted by fake accounts and false rumors online. Other well-known figures in the entertainment industry, including DJ Tira, Nothando Ngcobo, and Zodwa Wabantu, have also dealt with the spread of false information about their lives. Social media impersonation and fraud are becoming increasingly common, affecting many public personalities who have had to repeatedly clarify the truth to their audiences.

Gugu concluded her statement by urging her followers to exercise caution when consuming online content, emphasizing the importance of distinguishing between real and fake information.

The actress continues to focus on her career, refusing to let these baseless rumors derail her professional and personal life. Despite the challenges brought on by misinformation, Gugu remains steadfast in using her platform to inspire and uplift others through her work and personal experiences.
