BREAKING: Zama Zamas Reportedly Stuck Underground

ZAMA zamas are reportedly trapped at Rand Lease Mine in Florida, Roodepoort.

It is reported they could be heard screaming for help.

The exact circumstances surrounding the incident are still unclear at this stage, however, an unconfirmed number illegal miners are understood to be trapped underground.

Joburg Emergency Management Services (EMS) spokesman, Robert Mulaudzi confirmed that City of Joburg Emergency Management Services search and rescue technicians together with search and rescue are currently responding to a search and rescue operation at a disused mine shaft in Roodepoort.

“It is alleged that there are people who are trapped in this disused mineshaft. No injuries have been reported at this stage,” said Mulaudzi.

The search and rescue operation was called off and is set to resume on Monday, 10 February.
