“I’M not training anyone to take over.”

These were the words of the renowned naked traditional healer, Puseletso Mate (35), widely recognised as Malepona.

She dismissed rumours suggesting she’d be succeeded, calling them outright lies.

“At the moment, I’m not training anyone, and amadlozi will show me my successor if there’s one,” she said.

Malepona, based in Winterveld, Tshwane, clarified that she’s not active on social media and urged people not to trust anything posted about her online.

Known for consulting her clients while naked, Malepona explained that even in her own home, she walks unclothed.

She’s unapologetic, as it aligns with amadlozi’s orders.

She revealed that she uses a python in her healing practices and considers herself married to amadlozi.

However, the mum of two shared that her husband supports and cherishes her ancestral calling.

“This snake you see has existed for decades. I inherited it from my grandmother, who had inherited it from her mother,” she said.

Malepona noted that the python sometimes disappears for over three months before returning.

“I’m very comfortable with my snake and at peace. I even travel with it to different places. I believe when it’s gone, it visits my ancestors to recharge and gather more powers,” she said.

She shared that her clients come from various backgrounds, including prominent individuals, celebrities, and slay queens.

Malepona said that her home is open to anyone who needs help and that she constantly seeks guidance from her ancestors.

“I don’t give people muthi for ukuthwala.”

Despite her deep connection to amadlozi, she said that she believes in God and amadlozi, as she prays alongside practising her traditions.

Addressing societal issues, Malepona cautioned that people shouldn’t blame God or amadlozi for their misfortunes, as greed and criminal behaviour are often the root causes.

“We are our own worst enemies. People must stop imitating others. We’ve turned our ancestral beliefs into a joke,” she said.

Her nephew, Reabetswe Mate (24), praised Malepona’s straightforward nature and dedication to her craft.

“I’m not scared of the python. I even carry it myself,” he added.
