A MAN and his family are lucky to be alive.
This after thugs allegedly shot almost 200 bullets into his two-roomed shack.
The 56-year-old father from Jeffsville informal settlement in Tshwane told Daily Sun that he was praying on a nearby mountain when the shocking incident occurred.
“I heard loud sounds and thought it was firecrackers. I never thought people were shooting at my shack.”
He said he didn’t have enemies and was shocked by the incident.
His two kids, aged 16 and 27, were injured during the shooting.
The 16-year-old kid was shot in the right thigh, and according to the terrified dad, his leg was amputated immediately at the hospital.
He said his other kid was shot in the stomach and left thigh.
The shocking incident happened on Thursday, 20 February 2025, at about 11pm.
He said that four people were injured and two are still hospitalised.
“When I came home, I found my kids crying and my shack full of bullet holes.”

The man said that he often prays in mountains.
“I had some weird feeling when I was praying. When I heard the call, I felt weak. I’m just an ordinary person in the community. I don’t work. I spent my time playing a role of peace making and counselling in the community.”

The man alleged that the thugs used rifles.
“I was confused. It was hard. Even now, I’m struggling to cope. I don’t have any enemies. They want to kill me for being a good man.”
He said that he’s heartbroken and knowing that his kid’s leg is amputated makes it worse.
The man, originally from Nkandla in KZN, said he was powerless.
“I’m pleading with people to help me buy my kid an artificial leg because I don’t have money,” he said.
He added that he’s pleading for forgiveness if he has angered anyone.
He said he was prepared to kneel and apologise.
“We are no longer safe in this place.”
His 24-year-old neighbour said they are scared and live in fear.
“I had to hide under my bed when they were shooting.”
The madala’s 30-year-old grandson said they’re heartbroken.
“We don’t know who did this. My grandfather is a peacemaker in the community.”
Gauteng police spokeswoman Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said: “The police in Atteridgeville are investigating a case of attempted murder after two siblings and their neighbour were shot at by unknown suspects on 20 February 2025 at Jeffsville.”
She said it’s reported that the family was asleep when they heard gunshots, and upon investigating, they found the teenager, his sister, and their neighbour shot.
“All victims were taken to a local hospital. The motive for the shooting is not clear at this stage, and suspects are also unknown,” she said.
