LEGENDARY TV producer Duma Ndlovu is optimistic that charges against him will be withdrawn.
He said this after he and two co-accused appeared in the Palm Ridge Magistrates Court on Wednesday, 2 April.
The court case is postponed to 3 June.
He said the NPA and the South African Revenue Service (Sars) arrested him and two co-accused before they made investigations.
“This is illegal because you can’t arrest a person first, then make investigations after. There’s no merit in the case, and I believe I’m innocent,” said Ndlovu.
Ndlovu’s lawyer Angelique Koutromanos said they submitted representations to the court regarding the case on 28 March.
Ndlovu, alongside his co-accused Rodney Mutsharini, a registered tax practitioner who handled his Personal Income Tax, and Maxwell Mloyi, an unregistered tax practitioner responsible for his Company Income Tax, appeared in the Palm Ridge Specialised Commercial Crime Court.
They face 18 charges of tax fraud linked to Ndlovu’s personal and company taxes, totalling approximately R26 million.
The latter were arrested on 30 September 2024 and formally charged with their alleged offences.
Ndlovu is out on R100 000 bail, while Mutsharini and Mloyi were granted R50 000 bail each.
The court ordered Mloyi and Mutsharini to surrender their travel documents, report to their nearest police stations every Monday, and apply to the court for permission should they wish to travel outside South Africa.
Their arrests followed a joint investigation by the Sars and the National Prosecuting Authority’s Investigating Directorate Against Crime.
This investigation uncovered alleged collusion among the three in misrepresenting Ndlovu’s personal and company tax affairs.
