Vaccinated Top’ ANC Leader In Hospital Fighting For Her Life
Despite the South African Government’s efforts to ramp up the vaccination roll-out program, it seems the Covid-19 pandemic is still continuing unabated – and it has really demonstrated that it hardly discriminates on the basis of which strata of society one belongs to, every single person is susceptible to the virus if they are exposed.

Although the department of Health had given South Africans a reason to be hopeful few weeks ago, when it indicated that the third wave of infections were significantly decreasing, and that the country might be approaching the last stages of it, the last few days and weeks have seen an exponential rise of new infections.

The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) confirmed on Tuesday that at least 10 343 new cases were recorded in the country during the past 24 hours. With a further 369 people dying from complications related to the Covid-19 disease.

However, with the NICD confirming the daily Covid-19 statistics, the ANC equally released a statement in which it confirmed that Women’s League President and NEC member Bathabile Dlamini has tested positive for the deadly virus and she was hospitalised with severe illness.

The ANC did not specify as to when Dlamini tested positive, but reiterated government’s message for people to continue being vigilant and observing regulations, as the invisible enemy remains in our midst.
The party wished Dlamini a speedy recovery, indicating that she should recover and return to her office to continue serving the people.

The controversial leader is the second high-profile NEC member to test positive for the virus in recent weeks after Nomvula Mokonyane also tested positive.
And this has happened despite the fact that she has been vaccinated. But as experts have always indicated, vaccine does not prevent one from getting infected by the virus, rather it protects the infected person from suffering serere illness of the disease.

The timing of the news has really come as a shock, considering that the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) confirmed earlier today, that it has decided to formerly prosecute Dlamini for perjury, in relation to the constitutional court judgement which found that she lied under oath during the inquiry pertaining to the Social Grants crisis in 2017.
