Uncertainty Looms Over Ukhozi FM Presenter’s Career
UKHOZI FM’s Siyabonga “Siya” Mhlongo’s trial postponed, again.
The 41-year-old host from Durban, appeared in the Durban Magistrates Court on Wednesday, 12 February, and the case was remanded to Wednesday, 5 March 2025.
On Wednesday, 12 February, Siya’s trial was set to start, but State Prosecutor Shenaaz Hoosen told the court the trial couldn’t proceed as the pre-trial conference wasn’t finalised.
Magistrate Mhlonipheni Sibiya postponed the trial to 5 March for finalisation.

Siya was represented by his attorney Sikhumbuzo Mathabela.
He was arrested and released on a warning in September 2023 after a 29-year-old man, claiming to be his boyfriend, accused him of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
The alleged incident occurred on the night of 31 August 2024 in Durban. Afterwards, the victim posted a video online with a bloodied face, as Siya asked him to return to the car to drive him to hospital.
Siya’s future at Ukhozi FM looks uncertain as the station has started contract renewal negotiations with presenters for the 2025/26 season, beginning 1 April 2025.
Since the assault scandal, Ukhozi has muted Siya and it’s unclear if his contract will be renewed at the end of March, or not.
