Unathi Faku Nominated for Honor at 20th Africa Movie Academy Awards
Unathi Faku is beaming with pride after earning his first award nomination for his role in the acclaimed film The Queenstown Kings at the 20th Africa Movie Academy Awards.
The actor and voice-over artist goes against the grain in his craft with a commanding presence. He is a distinguished actor on the rise whose performances resonate with depth and authenticity.
“This is my first nomination as an actor, and it means a lot to get validation from my industry peers at such prestigious awards in the continent. It would be a huge pat on the back if myself or Sandile get the crown. Being nominated is a big deal,” he told TshisaLIVE.
His career is studded with notable achievements across film, television and commercials. He is popularly known for his roles on Heist, Dreamworld, Keeping Score, Blood Psalms, A Digger in the Dark, Gqeberha the and Uxolo.
“I have acted in several productions, but the role that gave me my big break is The Queenstown Kings. The role challenged me as an actor to push myself and get out of my comfort zone. It was a do-or-die project, and I am happy people received it well.”

Hailing from Mdantsane in East London, he uses his upbringing as inspiration when storytelling.
“I always try and include discipline and focus in my acting because it’s not an easy journey to come where I come from and be recognised in the industry. I always have to look back and remember where I come from. There is no film industry where I come from so I have to work to prove myself.”
