Ukhozi FM Contributor Zamaweza Mthalane Passes Away at 35

Tragic Loss for the Maskandi Community
Ukhozi FM contributor Zamaweza “Zuluglamour” Mthalane has sadly passed away at the age of 35. The well-known radio personality and maskandi music enthusiast died on Sunday, 9 March 2025, at Dr Pixley KaSeme Memorial Hospital in Durban following a short battle with meningitis.

A Passionate Contributor to Maskandi Music
Zamaweza was a respected figure in the maskandi music industry, contributing to Ukhozi FM’s popular show Sigiya Ngengoma. Every Saturday, she brought listeners the latest updates in maskandi music through her segment Ezisegudwini. Her deep knowledge and passion for the genre made her a favorite among maskandi fans.

Beyond radio, she was a sought-after MC at various maskandi festivals, where her vibrant personality and extensive music knowledge made her stand out. She also hosted the Umbuso Wamaciko podcast, a platform where she interviewed top maskandi artists and discussed industry trends.

Her Final Days
Her brother, Sphiwe Mthalane, confirmed her passing to Daily Sun. He revealed that Zamaweza had been struggling with severe headaches for about two weeks before her death.

“She called me, saying she had been suffering from a headache for a week, and I advised her to seek medical attention, which she did,” Sphiwe shared.

She initially visited a clinic before being transferred to Dr Pixley KaSeme Memorial Hospital, where she was diagnosed with meningitis. Unfortunately, her condition worsened, and she passed away around noon on Sunday.

Family and Fans Mourn Her Death
Zamaweza’s passing has left her family devastated. Her brother expressed how heartbroken they are, as they had high hopes for her growing entertainment career. The family planned to meet on Monday, 10 March, to finalize funeral arrangements.

Her contributions to maskandi music and her charismatic presence in the industry will be deeply missed. Many fans and colleagues have taken to social media to pay tribute to her, remembering her as a vibrant and dedicated advocate for traditional music.

Rise to Fame in the Maskandi Industry
Zamaweza became widely known in 2022 when she hosted the Umbuso Wamaciko podcast, which often featured heated debates among maskandi artists. One of the most talked-about moments from her show occurred when musicians Njoko and Mdumazi got into a physical altercation during a live recording.

In 2024, she joined Ukhozi FM as a contributor to the Sigiya Ngengoma show, providing insights and updates on maskandi music. She stepped in after the station dismissed the previous contributor, King Zoso, in April 2024.

A Legacy That Lives On
Zamaweza Mthalane’s death is a significant loss to the maskandi music industry and South African entertainment as a whole. Her passion, energy, and commitment to promoting traditional music will be remembered by fans and colleagues alike.

May her soul rest in peace.
