Troubles worsen for Mam’Mkhize
TROUBLES worsen for businesswoman and reality TV star, Shauwn “Mam’Mkhize” Mkhize.
This is because the future is uncertain for her team, Royal AM FC after the Premier Soccer League (PSL) suspended the team’s games until further notice.
Royal AM is currently under SARS’ curatorship and funds were frozen, leading to the non-payment of salaries in December 2024.
This followed a court ruling granting a preservation order and search seizure warrant in a case involving the SARS commissioner, Mam’Mkhize and others.
Royal AM was scheduled to play against Orlando Pirates at Harry Gwala Stadium in Pietermaritzburg, KZN on Thursday, 23 January, but the match has been cancelled.
They played their last PSL match on 29 December 2024, where they lost 3-1 to TS Galaxy and are currently in the relegation zone.
The team also failed to play against Chippa United FC on Saturday, 11 January, stating difficulties arising from the appointment of the curator.
On Wednesday, 22 January, PSL acting CEO Mato Madlala wrote a letter to all PSL chairpersons notifying them that Royal AM fixtures have been cancelled until further notice.
PSL also released a statement confirming the suspension of Royal AM fixtures.
“On 9 January 2025 Royal AM FC informed the league that it could not meet its commitments in respect of its match against Chippa United FC on 11 January 2025 due to difficulties arising from the appointment of a curator.
“The Executive Committee (ExCo) has since convened three separate meetings seeking the assurance that the club, under curatorship, will be able to meet its fixtures commitment in a compliant fashion,” read the statement.
The statement further said ExCo was informed on Friday, 17 January that a joint letter of comfort (from club management and the curator) would be provided confirming that issues that led to the club being unable to meet commitments had been resolved.
“No such letter of comfort has been forthcoming and Exco has been left with an alternative but to cancel the PSL fixture – Royal AM vs Orlando Pirates at Harry Gwala stadium at 7.30pm and to suspend all other Royal AM fixtures (Betway Premiership and Nedbank Cup) until further notice.
“The Executive Committee will meet again on Friday, 24 January at 11am to afford Royal AM (Under curatorship) to make representations regarding this matter,” read the statement.
