Tragic Loss: Glenwood High School Mourns the Sudden Death of Grade 10 Pupil on the Hockey Field7

The Glenwood High School community is in shock and mourning following the untimely death of 15-year-old Kaden Moodley, a Grade 10 pupil who collapsed on the sports field during hockey practice. The incident took place on Tuesday afternoon as Kaden was warming up for a scheduled hockey match.

Kaden’s father, Thevan Moodley, described the tragedy as every parent’s worst nightmare. He expressed his devastation over losing his son so suddenly, stating that no parent should ever have to experience such pain. Kaden’s twin brother, Kellen, is also heartbroken and struggling to come to terms with the loss of his sibling and best friend.

Speaking to IOL News, Thevan Moodley shared that Kaden had a deep love for sports and was a passionate and active participant in school activities. “He loved sports. He was fit, energetic, and always excited to be on the field,” Thevan recalled. According to him, Kaden was warming up for the match, kicking a ball around when he suddenly informed his teammates that they might need a substitute. Moments later, he collapsed.

Thevan and his wife were alerted immediately and rushed to the school. By the time they arrived, first responders were already on the scene, desperately trying to resuscitate Kaden. “They tried for over 30 minutes to revive him, but unfortunately, nothing could be done,” Thevan said with a heavy heart.

Kaden was the youngest of four siblings, with two older sisters and his twin brother, Kellen. The Moodley family describes themselves as very close-knit, and Kaden’s sudden passing has left a gaping hole in their hearts. “We are devastated. It’s something no family should ever go through,” Thevan added.

The family is now waiting for the post-mortem results to understand what caused Kaden’s sudden collapse. Preliminary reports suggest there were no prior health issues, making the loss even more shocking and difficult for the family to process. They hope to lay Kaden to rest on Friday.

Since the news broke, tributes and condolences have been pouring in from the Glenwood High School community, friends, family, and even strangers who were touched by Kaden’s story. The school has also expressed its deep sorrow and is offering support to the Moodley family during this difficult time.

Kaden’s death has sparked conversations around health screenings and the importance of emergency response during school sports events. Many parents are now questioning if more stringent health checks should be put in place for young athletes participating in school sports.

The Glenwood High School community is expected to hold a memorial in Kaden’s honor to celebrate his life and the joy he brought to those around him. His teammates and friends remember him as a cheerful, dedicated young boy who had a bright future ahead.

The Moodley family has requested privacy as they grieve and prepare for Kaden’s funeral. The tragic loss of this young life serves as a heartbreaking reminder of how precious and fragile life can be.
