‘They fired me’ — Kaya 959’s Sol Phenduka
Sol Phenduka has revealed he has been dismissed by Kaya 959 for “misogynistic remarks” he allegedly made about actress Minnie Dlamini.
The announcement came in cryptic post on his X timeline, where he shared a video of social media sensation Alostro saying “I’m free”.
When asked whether the post meant he would be back on the airwaves, Sol responded: “They fired me.”
Kaya 959 acting managing executive Dave Tiltmann confirmed the news in a statement.
“Kaya 959 cannot and will not condone comments made on the MacG Vodcast, where Sol Phenduka is an integral part of the presenting team,” said Tiltmann.
“Misogynistic remarks made about actress Minnie Dlamini were unacceptable and inconsistent with respect owed to women. As a content provider of our flagship breakfast show, his alignment with comments made on the vodcast does not reflect who we are as a station, nor what our listeners expect of us.”

On August 20, Kaya 959 issued a statement announcing the suspension of Sol with immediate effect, without providing specific details.
“Kaya 959 confirms that presenter Sol Phenduka has been placed on suspension with immediate effect. This step has been taken pending the outcome of an internal process currently under way. The station is committed to following due process, and no further details will be shared at this stage.
“Updates will be provided once the internal process has been concluded and a final decision has been reached. Kaya 959 appreciates the understanding of its staff, listeners and stakeholders while this matter is being addressed,” it stated at the time.
Shedding light on what led to his suspension, Sol revealed it stemmed from his association with Podcast and Chill and their legal battle with Minnie over unsavoury remarks made about her private parts on the platform when discussing her break-up with plastic surgeon Dr Brian Monaisa in early May.
“A lot of people are assuming I did something. I did nothing. This happened this morning and I was spirited because they said don’t say anything. I’m suspended for seven days,” he said.
“It’s about the court case with Minnie. It’s an old story but when the case happened, they came through.”
