‘There Were Too Many Bobos’: The Story Behind DJ Bob Ezy’s Origin from ‘Busa’
“Busa gave birth to the name Bob Ezy.”
So says the DJ, whose real name is Fanie William Mahlangu. Before the 2015 release of the single, featuring Euphonik, he had used a different stage name.
Speaking to TshisaLIVE, Bob Ezy explained: “I remember I was DJ Bobo (Money Maker) — I had to change the name to Bob Ezy cause people where getting confused, there were too many Bobos.”
Bob Ezy was in the books of Soul Candi before leaving the label. “Leaving Soul Candi was part of growth in my music journey as now I’ve developed a lot of exposure in that regard. Now I can spread my wings wider and reach my fans the way I want. I’m now signed under Bob Ezy Records,” he said.
The DJ recently teamed up with Pixie L on a single, Sthandwa Sami.
“Working with Pixie L is always so easy because she understands my sound. We’ve been known for making hits such as Emazulwini, Amen and Iminyaka. We’re also dropping Bob Ezy & Pixie L – The Musical Relationship on October 25.
“I’ll be showcasing my soon-to-be-released single at Plan B KwaMhlanga in Mpumalanga, R55 Chill in Centurion and in November I’m scheduled to perform at The Bears Palace in Carolina, Mpumalanga.”
Looking further ahead, Bob Ezy said he’d love to work with Sun-El Musician, Caiiro and Msaki.
