Tension Rises as Mapaputsi’s Family Feuds Over His Remains

Kwaito artist Mapaputsi’s children and his estranged wife, Nitty Nhlapo are reportedly at loggerheads.

The popular musician, real name Sandile Ngwenya passed away on Thursday, 5 September at 45 years.Zimoja reveals that Mapaputsi’s estranged wife Nitty Nhlapo allegedly cornered his daughter, (29) and son (19) to surrender the deceased’s paperwork and change funeral parlours

The publication adds that Nhlapo was accompanied by popular politician, Nhlanhla Lux.This is after his family had reportedly already made all the necessary arrangements for the memorial and funeral services.

The late musician also made headlines this week when his family reported that his friend held his body for ransom.

Celebrity blog, Maphepha Ndaba revealed on Tuesday, 10 September that the friend claimed they couldn’t retrieve the body unless they paid R50 000 for the death certificate.

“Mapaputsi’s dangerous tsotsi friend demands R50 000 from his family, or else they won’t get to bury him,” reports the outlet.

Nhlanhla Lux and Mapaputsi’s children could not be reached for comment by the publication

Mapaputsi’s family confirmed to IOL that the music legend passed away on Thursday evening in hospital following a short illness.
The kwaito musician’s memorial service was held on Thursday, 12 September at 14:00 at the Eyethu Hall, Mofolo, Soweto.

The Citizen reports that Deputy Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Peace Mabe praised Mapaputsi for using kwaito to inspire young people.

“He was from Soweto, but he made us and made numerous awards for his music. He proved to their young people that it’s not about where you come from but when you have dreams, anything is possible,” said Mabe.
