Stunning role switch rocks Nandi The Musical!

THE Popular Musical About King Shaka’s mum, Nandi the Musical, has replaced top actress Ntokozo Ngcobo.

Ntokozo portrayed the lead role of Queen Nandi for seven years but left the production this year to explore greener pastures.

Now, Mampho Moshoeshoe, who played Queen Nandi’s young version in the musical, has been promoted to the lead role.

The well-loved production is back on stage at The Playhouse starting from Thursday, 27 March, running until Sunday, 30 March.

Mampho (26), from Umzimkhulu on the KZN south coast, told Daily Sun she’s thrilled to play Queen Nandi.

“The role is so heavy but exciting at the same time. Nandi went through a lot, and I must ensure the audience understands the journey — how King Shaka became a king, thanks to his mum, who made it possible,” she said.

Mampho shared that having previously played young Queen Nandi, alongside Ntokozo Ngcobo, made the transition to her current role manageable.

“While I was playing young Nandi, I was also learning from her about how she was executing it. I learned a lot from her while she was still here.

“It was easy for me when I had to step into her shoes because I had been observing the whole time. I wouldn’t say that it was hard, but I wouldn’t say it was easy either. Acting is never easy. It was not hard, and it was not easy either,” said Mampho.

She said Queen Nandi was a resilient woman who taught King Shaka valuable life lessons.

“That woman literally faced difficulties that seemed unsolvable, but she had an eye that saw beyond problems, and that’s what she instilled in King Shaka.”
