Student Nurse Applications Now Open for 2026 The KwaZulu-Natal College of Nursing (KZNCN) is calling for applications for the 2026 Diploma in Nursing training programme. This opportunity is open to dedicated South African citizens residing in KwaZulu-Natal who aspire to become qualified nurses. The 3-year professional nursing programme leads to a Diploma in Nursing, registered at NQF Level 6, with a total of 368 credits, and is aligned with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) Regulation R171 (SAQA ID No. 115826).
This intensive and accredited nursing qualification equips learners with both theoretical knowledge and practical experience across healthcare facilities in KZN. The programme focuses on preparing student nurses to function as competent, compassionate, and professional healthcare providers who can contribute meaningfully to the public health sector.
What You’ll Be Doing
Successful applicants will engage in a comprehensive nursing curriculum which includes:
- Theoretical studies across general, community, psychiatric nursing, and midwifery

Score a maximum of 6 relevant highest score subjects on Matric / Grade 12 Certificate
- Grade 12 (Std 10) – Minimum 25 points
- English: “E” Higher Grade or “D” Standard Grade
- Biology / Physics / Chemistry / Physiology: “E” Higher Grade or “D” Standard Grade
- Mathematics: “E” Higher Grade or “D” Standard Grade

- A – HG 8 / SG 5
- B – HG 7 / SG 4
- C – HG 6 / SG 3
- D – HG 5 / SG 2
- E – HG 4 / SG 1
- F – HG 1 / SG 0
POST-2008 MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Score a maximum of 6 relevant highest score subjects on Matric / Grade 12 Certificate
- National Senior Certificate: Diploma Pass and above
- Minimum: 25 points
- English: Level 4
- Home Language / First Additional Language: Level 3
- Maths Level 3 / Maths Literacy Level 5
- Life Science / Physical Science Level 4
- Life Orientation Level 4 (LO is compulsory but not scored)
- Any other 2 subjects
Points value for calculation of APS:
- Level 8 – 90%-100%
- Level 7 – 80%-89%
- Level 6 – 70%-79%
- Level 5 – 60%-69%
- Level 4 – 50%-59%
- Level 3 – 40%-49%
- Level 2 – 30%-39%
- Level 1 – 0%-29%

- A signed affidavit from the Commissioner of Oaths stating that you are unemployed and have never benefited from the Department of Health bursary system at KZN College of Nursing
