Family Confirms the Passing of Yolanda “Yallunder” Nyembezi
South African singer and songwriter Yolanda Yallunder Nyembezi has sadly passed away at the age of 30. Her family released an official statement on Friday, March 14, 2025, confirming that she passed away on Thursday at Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital.
“It is with profound sorrow and heavy hearts that we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of our beloved daughter, sister, and friend, Yolanda Nyembezi, known to the world as Yallunder,” the statement read.
A Life Filled with Music and Passion
The family described Yallunder as a rare and gifted soul with an extraordinary voice.
“Yolanda graced this earth with a spirit that was as warm as it was powerful,” they said.
Born and raised in Bizana, Eastern Cape, on August 23, 1994, Yallunder was more than just a singer and songwriter. She was a classically trained vocalist and a cum laude graduate in vocal pedagogy, a testament to her dedication to the art of music.
Her family highlighted how she bravely fought illness for months, demonstrating resilience and grace until her final moments.
“Her journey was one of unwavering strength, and even in her most vulnerable moments, she remained a beacon of love, kindness, and artistry,” the statement continued.
A Rising Star in South African Music
Yallunder’s soulful voice caught the attention of many in 2018 when she started sharing her music online. Influential artists like Black Coffee and Sjava recognized her talent, leading to a major turning point in her career.
Sjava signed Yallunder to his record label, 1020 Cartel, where she officially launched her music career. She contributed to the iSambulo album in 2020, with standout tracks such as Ndinovalo, Inhliziyo, and Abanjani.
Later in 2020, she released her debut project, Uthando Lwam, which was engineered by Ruff. This album showcased her transition into the dance music genre, allowing her to collaborate with industry giants like Lemon & Herb, Kabza De Small, Oskido, Morda, and Heavy K.

As her career flourished, Yallunder embraced a new chapter as an independent artist under her label, Masani Music. She had ambitious plans to release more music and continue shaping the South African music scene.
