‘Solly Always Put Loved Ones First’ — Family Honors Late Gospel Singer
Solly Moholo was remembered as a joyful and kind person at a memorial service for the late gospel singer at the State Theatre in Pretoria on Wednesday afternoon.
Moholo died in hospital on October 2 after falling ill shortly after performing in Botswana.
The memorial service was attended by showbiz personalities including Machance, Stanley Khoza and gospel singer Luyanda.
Family member Kedibone Mokoena said: “We all know him as Solly Moholo but I know him as Solly Mathaithai. We’ve been friends since sub A (grade 1).”
Solly’s son-in-law Lesego Nkitseng: “Solly would stop everything for the people he loved.”
Sean Watson from Sony Music recalled the first time he met Moholo in 1999 while working for CCP Records.
“I never truly understood Solly’s personality until I got to work with him. He was truly unique. In 2003 he called me to ask me if I have a home for him and his music and I agreed. Then he joined me again at Sony Music. His music wasn’t finished at Sony.”
Speaking to TshisaLIVE, singer Machance said he was glad he had “mended things” with the singer before his death.
The funeral service for Moholo will take place at Akasia Hall at 8am on Saturday.
