Slain cop’s brother: I didn’t know I paid lobola to a ‘killer’

A WIFE accused of hiring hitmen to murder her metro cop husband appears in court.

She made a second court appearance on Friday, 21 February, in the Springs Magistrates Court.

Sibongile Dlamini (42) appeared alongside the accused Ntliziyozabantu Magwanyane, who allegedly pulled the trigger, as they both applied for bail.

However, the application was postponed to Thursday, 27 February.

Sibongile was arrested on 14 February while mourning the death of her husband, Banele Skosana (33), sitting on a mattress.

The EMPD cop was shot dead on 7 February while offloading stock from his car to his spaza shop in Kwa-Thema, Ekurhuleni.

Due to the large crowd in attendance, the case had to be moved to a slightly bigger courtroom.

Outside the court, residents of Kwa-Thema protested, demanding the accused wife be denied bail.

Lunga Skosana, the brother of the deceased, vented out his frustration to the media.

He was involved in his brother’s lobola negotiations for Sibongile in 2024.

He said had he known his brother was bringing the killer into the family, he could have stopped everything.

“We trusted her and never thought that she would go to such extent of hiring killers for my brother. We know couples have fights, but this has left us reeling with shock,” he said.

The accused are charged with murder.
