Skeem Saam holds special place in Macks’ heart
IT’S been over a year since actor Macks Papo left Skeem Saam.
But the SABC1 drama series still has his heart.
The Muvhango actor shared with Daily Sun how pivotal his role as Marothi on Skeem Saam has been in shaping his career.
The 58-year-old Macks from Mamelodi in Tshwane revealed that the character not only elevated his profile, but also helped to establish him as a brand, an achievement few can claim.
For Macks, Skeem Saam will always hold a special place in his heart.
“Today, even after a one-and-a-half-year absence from your screens, Marothi Maphothoma is quite an established brand. How many people can say their character is a brand? I can,” he said.
He said his character on Skeem Saam is known by many. “It doesn’t matter where I am. When they call me for MC work, it’s because they want Marothi,” said Macks.
He said working on one’s craft as an actor is important.

“Aspiring actors need to train, educate their craft, own it and while they are in that stage they will get called and invited to act,” he said.
Macks said the has been in the industry for 39 years.
“People like calling me a legend, but I keep saying they must give me until next year 2026 and once I finish it, they can call me a legend,” he said.
He said he’s young at heart and that keeps him going.
“I like them young because they keep me young. I love training young talent, because they keep me young,” he said.
Macks said he has been on a spiritual journey.
“I’m a growing student of spirituality, a prophet in the making but already gifted with certain powers,” he added.
