Sjava Reaches Out to Fans with Heartfelt Words
AWARD-winning singer Sjava is known for his soulful and heartfelt lyrics.
He released the highly anticipated project live EP Inkanyezi on Friday, 31 January.
The 40-year-old celebrated musician, whose real name is Jabulani Hadebe from Bergville in KZN, has also earned a nomination for the prestigious Trace Awards, a recognition he deeply appreciates.
Speaking to Daily Sun, Sjava explained why he prefers to release music in January, emphasising the importance of starting the year on a motivational note.
āI choose to release music in January because it’s a quieter period, and I believe music has different seasons. Iām not saying I will never release music in December, but I would only do so if the music aligns with the festive season. My January releases are always more introspective and meant to inspire people at the start of the year,ā he said.
One track that stands out on Inkanyezi is Sleepover, which carries a romantic theme.

Sjava encouraged fans to pay close attention to the song, as it speaks to appreciating oneās partner.
āSleepover is about spending quality time with your significant other. As inkabi, we donāt often do things like wearing gowns, having sleepovers, or going out to restaurants. This song highlights those small but meaningful moments shared with a loved one,ā he said.
On his Trace Awards nomination, Sjava expressed his gratitude, saying the recognition itself is a huge achievement.
āIt means so much to me, considering where I come from and where I am today. Being nominated at the Trace Awards is a dream come true. As kids, we wished for such moments, but I never imagined I’d be part of something so significant on the continent. Just being on the list is an honour,” he said.
Sjava also emphasised the importance of working with up-and-coming artists, highlighting the untapped talent in the industry.
āThere are so many talented artists who havenāt had the opportunity to be successful. Itās important to uplift and support them because their potential is incredible,” he added.
