Sello Motloung Pays Tribute to Darlington Michaels Just Hours Before His Passing
Hey there, everyone! Today, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the recent and heartbreaking news in the South African entertainment industry. We’ve lost two remarkable talents in a very short span of time, and it’s a reminder of how precious life really is.
Just hours before he passed away on Sunday, September 15, late actor Sello Motloung shared a touching tribute to his former co-star, Darlington Michaels, who had sadly passed away just two days earlier. Darlington was well-known for his unforgettable role as Georgie “Papa G” Zamdela in the iconic soap opera Isidingo, where he captivated audiences with his flamboyant portrayal of the gangster. He left us on September 13 at the age of 78, leaving a legacy full of memorable performances.
Sello, at age 54, was clearly affected by the loss. He took to Facebook to share his fond memories of working alongside Darlington in Chikin Biznis back in 1997. His post read like a beautiful homage, packed with nostalgia and love. He reminisced about the talented cast, which included Fats Bookholoane, Connie Chiume, Nomhle Nkonyeni, and many others who have made their mark in the industry. You could feel the warmth in his words as he remembered shared moments on set, specifically a scene that involved him, Darlington, and Bookholoane that didn’t quite make the cut but remained a cherished memory for him.

Motloung wrote, “The three of us had a ball in that scene,” reminding us that the magic of acting isn’t just in the final product but in the relationships built and the fun experienced during filming. He concluded his tribute with a heartfelt farewell: “Sleep Well… Bra Darlington Michaels. Thespian & Theatre Maker.”

"The three of us had a ball in that scene.
Unfortunately, as they say, the scene didn’t make it to the final print,
but rather it was left in the editor’s floor. I have both the final cut
and the director’s cut.”Treasured for obvious reasons. The second time I
shared a frame of Bra D, as he was affectionately known, was on the
then Isidingo: The Need.“Sleep Well… Bra Darlington Michaels. Thespian
& Theatre Maker”, he concluded his tribute.
Just a few hours later, however, the news turned even more somber with the announcement of Sello’s own passing. Reports indicated that he collapsed at home and was rushed to the hospital, but tragically, he didn’t make it. His family expressed their devastation and requested some space as they navigate through this shocking loss.
Sello Motloung, just like Darlington Michaels, will forever be remembered as a beloved figure in the South African entertainment scene. His contributions to Generations and The Wife, and many other projects, have left an indelible mark. It’s hard to fathom that just as we were honoring one star, we were also saying goodbye to another.
As fans, we can take solace in the artistry and memories these two incredible actors provided throughout their careers. May they both rest in peace, knowing they have enriched our lives through their performances. And let’s remember to celebrate the stories and legacies they left behind. Until next time, hold your loved ones close and cherish every moment!
Rest in Power to the legendary Darlington Michaels.
