Background & Job Description
The Road Accident Fund (RAF) is a critical entity in South Africa, tasked with compensating individuals injured in road accidents within the country’s borders. This government body not only provides financial support to victims but also advocates for the safe use of roads nationwide. As part of its mission to offer efficient and compassionate service, RAF is hiring 11 skilled individuals for the role of Consultant: Pre-Assessment based in Menlo Park, Pretoria.
This is a 24-month fixed-term contract opportunity aimed at professionals with experience in the claims environment and a strong understanding of road accident legislation and administrative support. The Consultant: Pre-Assessment will manage, evaluate, and communicate outcomes of prospective claims to ensure alignment with RAF standards and regulatory frameworks.
Tasks
Pre-Assessment of Prospective Claims
- Record all submitted documents for potential claims
- Determine the benefits and products applicable from submitted documents
- Evaluate documents for compliance with set rules and procedures
- Apply lodgement and compliance rules during pre-assessment
- Identify duplicate and linked claims
- Apply prescription rules and verify mortality with Home Affairs
- Communicate assessment outcomes to claimants
Quality Assurance
- Implement high-quality pre-assessment procedures
- Maintain and follow procedures for unusual claim occurrences
Administrative Support
- Document all acknowledged claims
- Handle all claim-related correspondence
- Create reports, briefing papers, and presentations
- Provide typing and editing support for technical documents and memos
Reporting
- Track performance against objectives
- Report emerging risks
- Generate ad hoc reports related to process improvements
Stakeholder Management
- Build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships
- Provide timely follow-ups and feedback
- Ensure queries are resolved within specified turnaround times
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma in a relevant field
Experience
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a claims-related environment
