Rising Gospel Star Nelisizwe Skhosana Prepares for EP Launch
Nelisizwe Skhosana is gearing up to launch her debut EP.
The Ermelo-born gospel singer has always been deeply rooted in spirituality and music. Raised in a devout Christian family, she was introduced to the word of God at a very young age.
Nelisizwe will launch her EP, titled Kuvela Kuwe, at the Durban Playhouse on December 5.
Speaking to TshisaLIVE, the 29-year-old said her early spiritual foundation significantly influenced her life, shaping her understanding of her purpose and ministry.
“I discovered my musical talent at a young age. I began singing in church and quickly realised my voice was a gift from God. I started taking my music seriously, performing at gigs. My early performances not only honed my skills but also provided me with financial independence. My music taught me responsibility and maturity, shaping me into the person I am today,” she said.
After completing high school, Nelisizwe moved to Durban to further her studies. She later enrolled at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) to study music. Though she has not finished her studies due to personal reasons, her time at the university was highly productive. She was a part of the UKZN Jazz-Jol, which played a significant role in her musical development.
“In 2023 my career took a significant leap forward when I participated in the eThekwini Gospel Icon Discovery Competition, known as Gospel ID, hosted by the eThekwini municipality. Competing against nine other contestants, I emerged as the winner. The victory brought my widespread recognition.
“My versatility as a musician allowed me to perform genres including jazz, pop and gospel. I am also a member of the Genesis Choir, founded by Wandlile Khambule, a fellow gospel musician and bassist. With the Genesis Choir, I recorded the song Elshaddai.”
