After the pain of losing to arch-rivals Kaizer Chiefs in the Carling Black Label Cup on Sunday, Orlando Pirates football family has been struck by a huge blow this morning, after the confirmation of the death of another important individual in the history of the highly-decorated Soweto club.

The club took to micro-blogging platform twitter to send its most sincere condolences to family of business magnate Ramodutoana Jackie Motlogeloa who sadly passed away yesterday, 1 August at the age of 79. The cause of his death was not divulged nor has details pertaining to his memorial service and funeral.

“The club’s tweet read as follows: ☠ Orlando Pirates is saddened by the passing of Jacob “Bra Jackie” Motlogeloa. On behalf of the extended @orlandopirates family, we convey our heartfelt and deepest sympathy to the Motlogeloa family. Rest In Peace. ⚫⚪🔴⭐.

‘Bra Jackie’ as he was affectionately known made his fortune through his Mamo Group company which mainly has interests in property development and other businesses such as casinos and horse racing.

Out of his passion for football, he has been credited for opening up the club for the participation of multiple races in the late 80s and early 90s.

Pirates are one of the clubs that had a huge contingent of white players, and this is believed to have been ‘Bra Jackie’s initiative.

He also used his businesses to promote a vaudeville of boxers in the country, such as the late ‘Baby Jake’ Matlala, who was one of the high-profile boxers he promoted in the 1990s.

Matlogoloe is said to have worked under one of the greatest black people in South African history, the late Richard Maponya.

It has been reported that some of the important business leaders he has interacted with include former American President and business tycoon, Donald J Trump as well as South African business magnate Johann Rupert.
