Reflecting on Change: Zuluboy Discusses Hip-Hop’s Journey at Moshito
Rapper Zuluboy shed light on the evolution of hip-hop at this year’s Moshito Music Conference & Exhibition activation at the Museum of Hip-Hop in Newtown, Johannesburg, recently.
The event, set to take place from Thursday to Sunday at the Joburg Theatre, is designed to offer a comprehensive experience that blends industry discussions, artist showcases and public celebrations, and hosts informative panel discussions on the state of the music industry.
The rapper, whose real name is Mxolisi Majozi, weighed in on the topic of “From protest to progress and being a voice for the voiceless”, reflecting on his 20-year contribution to the music industry. He also expressed his excitement at the opportunity to showcase this through his performance at this year’s event.
Speaking to TshisaLIVE, Zuluboy said: “We are doing well, but we should not leave innovation behind. There are many ways that we can preserve hip-hop and create platforms where hip-hop can live forever.
“Artist will [thrive] if policies and industry regulations are put in place. Streams and music modernisation acts are a great example.”
Moshito spokesperson Nongelo Chiume expressed his enthusiasm about the event.
“This media launch is not just an announcement but a celebration of African music’s continued rise,” he said.
“We are excited to share our vision for Moshito 2024 and to introduce a remarkable line-up of ambassadors who have each made significant contributions to the music industry, both locally and internationally. Their voices will undoubtedly enrich the discussions and experiences throughout the conference.”
