Background & Job Description
Public Protector South Africa is actively recruiting five Investigators to strengthen its capacity in ensuring ethical governance and addressing service delivery failures. These positions will serve across Mpumalanga, North West, and Gauteng provinces.
Investigators will be responsible for conducting impartial investigations into maladministration, abuse of power, and unethical conduct within government departments and public entities. The roles demand individuals who are analytical, ethical, and committed to public accountability.
Tasks
- Conduct thorough investigations into maladministration and improper conduct within state institutions
- Draft Investigation Reports and Closing Reports
- Gather and assess documentary, oral, and physical evidence
- Apply Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) techniques where necessary
- Keep complainants informed about the progress of investigations
- Produce accurate statistical reports and maintain case management systems
- Initiate investigative hearings and make sound recommendations
- Ensure full compliance with legislative mandates
- Submit reports with clarity, objectivity, and actionable insight
- Collaborate with teams and stakeholders to enhance transparency
- Adhere to all required confidentiality protocols and performance standards
Qualifications
Applicants must possess one of the following academic qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s Degree or National Diploma in:
- Law
- Auditing
- Forensic Accounting
- Public Administration or related fields
- Legally qualified candidates must provide proof of qualifications to be eligible for the higher salary band
Experience
- Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in:
- Investigations
- Forensic auditing
- Public service complaint handling
- Legal research and evidence collection
- Additional preferred competencies:
- In-depth knowledge of the Public Protector SA’s legislative framework
- Strong report writing and analytical abilities
- Proficiency in Case Management Systems
- Excellent communication in English and local languages
- Valid driver’s license
