Tragic Shooting in Woodstock

Imaan Syms, a 30-year-old woman who was pregnant, was fatally shot on Monday night in Sussex Street, Woodstock. The unidentified suspect fled the scene, leaving the community in shock and mourning her untimely death.

Syms will be laid to rest in accordance with Muslim rites at 11 a.m. on Wednesday.

Police Investigation Underway

Sergeant Wesley Twigg, a spokesperson for the police, confirmed that officers from Woodstock police station responded to reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered Syms’ lifeless body with multiple gunshot wounds.

“Reports indicate that the victim was approached by an unknown suspect who opened fire before fleeing the scene. Medical personnel declared her deceased at the scene. The motive for the attack remains under investigation,” Twigg stated.

Community in Mourning

Syms was the daughter of Ziyaad Williams, a well-known figure in the Minstrel Fraternity and the team owner of the D Six Hanover Minstrels. Her passing has left family, friends, and the community heartbroken.

Following the tragic news, social media was flooded with messages of condolences, with many remembering her as a loving and kind-hearted individual.

Shock in Woodstock

Gary Adams from the Woodstock Community Policing Forum (CPF) expressed shock over the incident, highlighting that Sussex Street is generally a peaceful area.

“There are no known gangs or gang activities in Sussex Street. The reason for the shooting is still unclear,” Adams told the Daily Voice.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing the shooter fleeing on foot down Sussex Street toward Lower Main Road before turning left in the direction of the city center.

“We are unsure if a vehicle was waiting for the suspect. The investigation will reveal more details,” Adams added.
