Port Elizabeth TVET College is inviting applications from dedicated individuals to join the institution as General Assistants (Cleaner/Groundsmen) on a fixed-term project contract. The successful candidates will support campus operations by ensuring a clean and well-maintained environment across the college’s campuses. These roles are essential for creating a hygienic and welcoming setting conducive to academic success.
The General Assistant positions are ideal for individuals looking to gain entry-level work experience in a public institution, with no previous experience required.
Tasks
The core duties and responsibilities of the General Assistant include:
- Cleaning of offices, corridors, boardrooms, and elevators
- Cleaning restrooms and general kitchens
- Maintenance and cleaning of cleaning machines (e.g., microwaves, vacuum cleaners)
- Reporting malfunctioning or broken cleaning equipment
- Requesting replenishment of cleaning materials
- Maintaining gardens and surrounding premises
- Upkeep of gardening tools and landscaping equipment
- Supporting ad hoc facility maintenance duties as required
Qualifications
- ABET Certificate / Standard 8 / Grade 10
- Basic understanding of hygiene practices and safety protocols
- Familiarity with repetitive task execution
- Awareness of storage and facilities maintenance practices
Experience
- No prior work experience is required
- Training may be provided on-the-job to familiarize successful applicants with college procedures and safety measures
