Police Officer Arrested After Fatally Shooting Girlfriend
A police sergeant has been arrested for allegedly killing his 22-year-old girlfriend, Chesnay Patricia Keppler, in Eldorado Park, Johannesburg. Keppler, a Crime Prevention Warden known as amaPanyaza, worked alongside the officer at the Eldorado Park police station.
Incident Details
Brigadier Maluleke, the Station Commander, reported that the incident occurred on Thursday around 3 PM at a residence on Smarag Street, where Keppler was visiting friends. The officer, accompanied by another constable, arrived at the location while under the influence of alcohol.
According to initial reports, the officer forced Keppler and her two friends into a state vehicle. Maluleke stated, “It is alleged that he assaulted the deceased and her friends. However, they managed to overpower him and lock themselves inside the house. One of the friends recorded a video during the altercation.”
The officer then retrieved his state-issued firearm from the vehicle and returned to the scene.
## Fatal Shooting
Standing outside the kitchen window, the officer reportedly fired multiple shots into the house, fatally wounding Keppler. She was rushed to Baragwanath Hospital, where she was declared dead upon arrival.
Maluleke also noted that the officer had a history of being abusive toward Keppler. After the shooting, the sergeant fled the scene in the state vehicle and reportedly attempted suicide. He is currently under police guard at Baragwanath Hospital.
