Traffic Officers in Hot Seat Over Alleged Tjotjo Deal!

OBTAINING a driver’s licence has become increasingly challenging.

Most learners and those seeking driver’s licences without money for bribes find it hard to acquire their licences.

This is because to get one, they’re subjected to bribes, or they’ll walk empty-handed.

Many have reported being forced into paying bribes ranging from R1 500 to at least R3 000 to obtain their licences. Without the money, they risk failing their tests deliberately.

However, they’re now happy that the Limpopo Hawks and Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) are cleaning the streets by arresting corrupt officials.

This after four more traffic examiners aged between 37 and 59 were arrested at the Bela Bela Testing Station, Limpopo, on Wednesday, 12 February.

This brings the total number of arrested traffic examiners to 23 in Lephalale, Thabazimbi, including Bela-Bela, since the beginning of February 2025.

The arrests followed an intensive investigation launched in 2021 to identify officials and testing stations who were issuing learners and driver’s licences without following proper procedures in return for gratification.

A 32-year-old man said he had to try four times to get his driver’s licence because he didn’t have money for a bribe.

“I had to pay R1 500 to get my learner’s licence because they make you fail if you don’t have it. From there, I thought I would pass the driving lessons since I was able to drive.

“To my surprise, I would fail without making any mistake. I tried three times and failed, but because I needed the licence to apply for a job, I had to pay another R1 500 bribe to get my licence,” he said.

A driving school owner (55) said the issue of paying bribes is ruining their businesses.

“We’re unable to attract customers because of this issue, and we’re happy that officials are dealing with it,” he said.

Limpopo Hawks spokesman Warrant Officer Lethunya Mmuroa said the operation is still ongoing, and more arrests are imminent as the team is still busy with the operation to address fraud and corruption-related offences.

Advocate Makhosini Msibi, CEO of the RTMC, said the arrests would help reduce the corruption that has been negatively impacting the management of licencing in Limpopo.

Siya was represented by his attorney Sikhumbuzo Mathabela.

He was arrested and released on a warning in September 2023 after a 29-year-old man, claiming to be his boyfriend, accused him of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

The alleged incident occurred on the night of 31 August 2024 in Durban. Afterwards, the victim posted a video online with a bloodied face, as Siya asked him to return to the car to drive him to hospital.

Siya’s future at Ukhozi FM looks uncertain as the station has started contract renewal negotiations with presenters for the 2025/26 season, beginning 1 April 2025.

Since the assault scandal, Ukhozi has muted Siya and it’s unclear if his contract will be renewed at the end of March, or not.

Popular Singer Bows Out of Music Industry

MULTI-award-winning maskandi singer announces his departure from the music industry.

Vela “Sgwebo Sentambo” Khoza, who is the nephew of legendary maskandi musician Thwalofu Khoza and cousin of renowned singer Bheki “Ihhashi Elimhlophe” Ngcobo, noted numerous challenges as the reason for his decision to quit.

    Struggles with modern music practices
Vela said adapting to new singing styles and the digital methods of selling and promoting music has been particularly challenging for him.

He said the lack of respect from event organisers and municipalities, especially those who book him but fail to pay on time, has also been discouraging.

Vela said that unlike before, when he sold hard copy albums, his music no longer supports him and his family financially.

Sgwebo Sentambo, originally from Obuka, KZN, began releasing his music in 2009 and has won several awards, including Best Maskandi at both the Samas and SATMAs and Best Performer at Amantshontsho kaMaskandi.

The Alibuyele Ku Zuma hitmaker told Daily Sun that another reason for quitting is the diminishing respect for veteran musicians, including his uncle Thwalofu.

“I’m from the family of the musicians as my uncle Thwalofu is a legendary musician and my brother Ihhashi is also musician, and it pains me to also see them not getting bookings like other musicians especial my uncle because he is the legends.”

He said the digital space and new singing styles have diminished the appeal of his music, which is considered traditional maskandi.

“Now the musician has moved from the original maskandi musician which sings about what is happening in the country because of digital and social media.

“Now male musicians are singing songs that praise women and criticising men to be popular on digital media. You will see a male musician singing and moving his bums on TikTok, which I cannot do,” Sgwebo Sentambo said.

    Final act: A farewell album
Since digital technology took over, he has worked with many knowledgeable people, but it still doesn’t pay him well.

“I can say that there are people who understand this digital thing better, like Insika Yethonga and Kwazi Nsele, and I get money for that, but that money is not enough, and it is not like the money I used to get before when I was still selling cassettes and CDs.”

He added that he will release his last album during the Easter holidays.

My Brother’s Keeper Reaches Its Final Chapter

IT’S been a sad few months for viewers of My Brother’s Keeper.

They’ve been disappointed since Mzansi Magic announced that the show would be canned.

The mood has been the same on set, according to actress Hlengiwe Lushaba Madlala, who plays MaMchunu.

The filming wrapped up on Friday, 7 February.

The show starring Lindani Nkosi, Zola Nombona, Wiseman Mncube, Sdumo Mtshali and others was cancelled in November 2024.

The final episode is yet to be confirmed.

“We are heartbroken. It’s sad, especially if you feel like you’ve been doing good work and have been giving it your all. It’s rare that you find a group of artists who just pour their hearts into a story. The crew as well, I’ve never seen such a hardworking crew.

“But there was also a lot of gratitude because we have found family. That, for me, is the biggest blessing. I walk away with brothers and sisters whom we’ll continue being in touch with,” she told Daily Sun.

Her character, MaMchunu, is one of the most loved characters on TV at the moment.

“Oh, my word, it’s an interesting space to navigate, especially because I’ve been doing this for a long time, and with just one role, there’s a lot of traction. It’s humbling when I come across mothers and people whose stories haven’t been told on TV.

“The story of mum, I don’t remember seeing a character that focuses on the journey of a mum from beginning to end and the complexities of being a mum. It’s been beautiful getting appreciation from mums and older women. They feel seen through this character. For me, that’s beautiful. It overwhelms and humbles me,” she said.

Hlengiwe revealed that she was still dealing with the loss herself.

“We are all grieving. I’m not going to lie. For me, there are moments when I feel I’m fine. Sometimes, I feel overcome with emotion, and I know I’m not the only one. I know the community that’s watching also feels the same way.

“We wrapped on Friday. I wasn’t there. I wrapped it a little bit earlier. I communicated with the cast. It was sad,” Hlengiwe said.

The actress said she’s working on herself while she waits for the next role.

“I don’t know where to next. It’s God who orders our footsteps. There hasn’t been anything yet. I’m hoping and trusting something beautiful will open. MaMchunu sat like a glove. I hope to experience more of that in the future. I’m open to beautiful roles that tell beautiful stories about our people.

“But at the moment, the homework is important. The work after the work – how you debrief, how you reflect on what happened, how you come back to your family life. I’m a mum and wife. I need to see how I come back to that in my fullness without interruption,” she added.

Mseleku Faces Challenges with His Fifth Wife

POPULAR polygamist Musa Mseleku might have achieved his goal of getting a fifth wife, but he still needs to convince his other wives to accept her.

Three of his wives aren’t keen on welcoming wife number five, Samke Khwela, with only his first wife, Busisiwe “MaCele” Mseleku, showing support.

In the latest episode of Uthando Nes’thembu on Mzansi Magic aired on Wednesday night, 12 February, Mseleku tried to get MaYeni, MaKhumalo, and MaNgwabe to meet wife number five, but they refused.

Wife number four, Mbali “MaNgwabe” Mseleku, feels the new wife is her replacement and still threatens to leave Mseleku.

Meanwhile, MaYeni, staying at her maiden home, also threatens to leave permanently.

The second wife, Nokukhanya “MaYeni” Mseleku, advised Samke to find someone her age.

“Samke, wherever you are, find someone your age and stay away from this old man. He’ll play you. Ask us, we’re older and will tell you. If you don’t listen, this old man will play you,” said MaYeni.

MaYeni raised concerns about where the fifth wife would stay, as her own house has issues.

“In my house, everything is falling apart – my stove is broken, and the cupboards are breaking down. Mseleku was saving for Samke’s lobola while my home fell apart,” she said.

Mayeni was clear, Mseleku shouldn’t invite her when he officially introduces the fifth wife after introducing her to the first wife.

“Samke is his wife. She’ll make him happy, not me,” said Mayeni.

Wife number four, Mbali “MaNgwabe” Mseleku, doesn’t want the fifth wife introduced to her.

“I told him wife number five will be my replacement,” she said.

Thobile “MaKhumalo” Mseleku, the third wife, also said she doesn’t want the new wife introduced to her.

“If it were up to me, he’d just marry her and take her home. I don’t want him talking about her to me, just like I don’t want him talking about me to her,” said MaKhumalo.

Mseleku said MaYeni’s claims about her house’s problems, a missing bulb or faulty plug, are minor.

The polygamist said his wives accepted marriage to a polygamist, not a monogamist, so if they choose to leave, because of his polygamous lifestyle, he understands.

Ex-Municipal Officer Sizwe Ngema Gets 20-Year Sentence for Girlfriend’s Murder

Ex-Municipal Officer Sizwe Ngema Gets 20-Year Sentence for Girlfriend’s Murder

    A Shocking Confession in Court

Former municipal police officer Sizwe Ngema has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for the murder of his girlfriend, Yolanda Khuzwayo. Ngema, who was also in law enforcement, pleaded guilty to the crime in court. He admitted that he killed Khuzwayo after she disclosed that the child she was carrying was not his and that she intended to terminate the pregnancy.

    The Motive Behind the Murder
During his court testimony, Ngema revealed that he was overwhelmed by rage upon learning the truth about the paternity of the unborn child. In his confession, he stated that Khuzwayo informed him that he was not the father and that she planned to have an abortion. This revelation triggered an uncontrollable outburst of anger, leading to the tragic crime. After committing the murder, Ngema took to social media to share the horrifying news, sparking outrage and sorrow among the public.

    #### Court Verdict and Sentencing
The court found Ngema guilty of murder, handing him a 20-year prison sentence. Prosecutors argued that his actions were premeditated and driven by a possessive and violent mentality. The judge strongly condemned the crime, emphasizing that law enforcement officers, who are supposed to uphold the law, must never be perpetrators of violence. The sentencing serves as a stark reminder that crimes against women will not be tolerated, regardless of the perpetrator’s position in society.

    #### Public Outrage and Reactions
The case has sparked widespread outrage across South Africa, with many calling for stricter measures against gender-based violence (GBV). Social media platforms have been flooded with messages condemning Ngema’s actions and demanding better protection for women. Activists and advocacy groups have used this case to highlight the dangers of toxic relationships and the urgent need for mental health awareness, particularly among law enforcement officers.

    #### The Bigger Picture: Addressing Gender-Based Violence
This tragedy underscores the pressing issue of gender-based violence in South Africa, where cases of femicide and abuse continue to rise. Many advocacy groups are using this case as an example of why legal consequences for such crimes must be severe. Experts are also emphasizing the importance of emotional intelligence, communication, and conflict resolution in relationships to prevent similar incidents.

Authorities and mental health professionals are urging individuals who experience emotional distress to seek help. They also emphasize the need for police officers and other professionals in high-stress jobs to receive adequate psychological support to prevent violent outbursts.

    #### A Call for Stronger Measures
With gender-based violence remaining a major issue, many are calling for stricter laws, harsher punishments, and improved victim support systems. Women’s rights organizations continue to push for legal reforms that ensure better protection and swift justice for victims.

    #### Conclusion
While the sentencing of Sizwe Ngema brings a degree of justice to Yolanda Khuzwayo’s grieving family, it also serves as a painful reminder of the urgent need to address gender-based violence. The tragic loss of a young woman at the hands of someone sworn to protect the public has reignited conversations about accountability, mental health support, and the fight against violence toward women. The pursuit of justice continues as South Africa grapples with ways to ensure the safety and protection of all its citizens.
