The incident occurred on Wednesday night, February 19, when a wall collapsed on sleeping residents, leading to fatalities in various areas, including Folweni, KwaMakhutha, Demat, and Ensimbini.

    Emergency Response and Rescue Efforts

eThekwini Municipality spokeswoman Gugu Sisilana confirmed that the extreme weather conditions resulted in widespread destruction, impacting both formal and informal housing structures. Emergency response teams, including disaster management officials, the fire department, and the South African Police Service, rushed to the affected locations to assist those trapped under the rubble.

    Tragic Loss and Shocking Allegations
A woman accused of orchestrating the murder of her husband, an Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) officer, has been arrested. The widow, Sibongile Dlamini, appeared grief-stricken at Officer Banele Skosana’s memorial, but authorities now suspect her involvement in his death. Alongside an alleged hitman, Nhliziyozabantu Magwanyana, Dlamini appeared in court on February 17.

The Murder of Officer Banele Skosana
Officer Skosana was shot and killed outside a tuck shop he co-owned with his wife in KwaThema, Gauteng, on February 7, 2025. The fatal attack occurred as he was unloading stock from his vehicle. Reports indicate that two suspects were involved, with one still on the run. The attackers allegedly stole Skosana’s private firearm before fleeing the scene.

    Arrests and Court Appearances
Three days after the murder, law enforcement officers arrested Magwanyana at the KwaThema hostel. He later led investigators to the murder weapon, which was found hidden in a pillowcase. On February 14, authorities arrested Dlamini, just as preparations for her husband’s funeral were underway. After spending the weekend in custody, she appeared in the Springs Magistrate’s Court alongside Magwanyana.

    Viral Videos and Community Reaction
Two videos related to the case have circulated widely online. The first shows Dlamini at Skosana’s memorial on February 13, appearing distraught as she mourned her husband’s death. The second video captures the dramatic moment when police arrested her in the presence of shocked family and community members. Several people can be seen breaking down in tears, while a group of women sing in the background.

    Past Allegations and Investigation Progress
Authorities are also investigating claims that Dlamini had previously attempted to poison Skosana. The case took another turn when a witness in the video mentioned the alleged poisoning attempt. Meanwhile, the City of Ekurhuleni’s spokesperson, Zweli Dlamini, expressed shock at the brutal murder, describing Skosana as a dedicated officer who risked his life for the community.

A manhunt remains underway for the second suspect. The case has been postponed to February 21 for further investigation and a formal bail application.

Flooded Poultry Farm Faces Devastation – A Business in Ruins

Heartbreaking scenes have emerged from a poultry farm that has been severely impacted by recent flooding. The disaster has not only resulted in the tragic loss of countless chickens but has also left the farm owners facing an uncertain future.

    Severe Flooding Leads to Catastrophe
Heavy rains and rising water levels overwhelmed the farm, submerging the coops and leaving the chickens struggling to survive. Many birds drowned in the floodwaters, while others were left soaked and vulnerable. The scene was devastating, with farm workers wading through knee-deep water in an effort to save what they could.

The farm, which had been a thriving business, is now a scene of destruction. Feed storage areas have been ruined, equipment has been damaged beyond repair, and the overall infrastructure has been weakened. The financial loss is expected to be enormous, putting the entire operation at risk.

    A Farmer’s Worst Nightmare
For the farm’s owner, this disaster is nothing short of a nightmare. Years of hard work have been washed away in just a few hours. Speaking with tears in their eyes, the farmer described the heartbreak of seeing their animals suffer and their livelihood crumble before them.

“This farm is everything to me,” the owner said. “We’ve worked day and night to build it up, and now it’s gone. I don’t know how we will recover from this.”

The emotional toll on the workers and their families is equally devastating. Many rely on the farm for their income, and with the business in ruins, their future remains uncertain.

Community Support and Urgent Help Needed
Local authorities and neighbors have stepped in to offer assistance, helping to clear the debris and rescue any surviving animals. However, the road to recovery will be long and difficult. The farm will need significant financial support to rebuild its facilities and replace lost livestock.

Calls for government aid and relief funds have been made, urging officials to step in and provide emergency assistance. Animal welfare organizations are also advocating for proper care for the surviving chickens, many of which are suffering from stress and exposure.

A Grim Reminder of Nature’s Power
This tragedy serves as a reminder of the unpredictable power of nature and the vulnerabilities faced by farmers. Extreme weather conditions, driven by climate change, are becoming more frequent, putting small businesses like this poultry farm at greater risk.

As the farm owners and workers begin the slow process of recovery, they hold on to hope that with enough support, they can rebuild what has been lost. For now, the focus remains on salvaging what remains and finding a way to move forward from this heartbreaking disaster.

“Murder Case Dropped Against Man Who Stabbed Ex-Girlfriend 22 Times”

    Premeditated Murder Case Nears Conclusion

The Durban High Court has heard the final arguments in the trial of Sphamandla Khumalo, who is accused of murdering his former partner, Nomfundo Msibi. The prosecution, led by Krishen Shah, argued that Khumalo had planned the brutal attack, which took place in the parking lot of the Gateway shopping centre on August 4, 2024.

Msibi, a 30-year-old mother of three, was stabbed at least 22 times, with an okapi knife found lodged in her body. The attack, captured on surveillance footage, was described in court as deliberate and ruthless.

    Chilling Video Evidence

During the trial, the court was shown footage of the murder. It depicted an argument between Msibi and Khumalo before he launched a frenzied attack. The video showed him stabbing her multiple times, even after she had collapsed. He was seen attempting to slit her throat and continued his assault as she lay on the ground.

Judge Jacqueline Henriques noted that, while Khumalo admitted to stabbing Msibi, he denied that it was premeditated. However, Shah pointed out that Msibi had previously moved to KwaMashu to escape Khumalo, indicating that she feared for her safety.

    Prosecution Argues Intent

Shah dismissed the idea that the attack was unplanned, emphasizing that Msibi was prevented from leaving during the argument. He also questioned why Khumalo had been carrying a weapon in the first place, reinforcing the claim that the killing was intentional.

Investigating officer Det-Const Boitumelo Phama testified that the brutal nature of the stabbing resembled the “slaughtering of an animal.” Judge Henriques concurred that there was no evidence to contradict this assessment.

    A Meeting That Turned Deadly

The court previously heard that the couple had agreed to meet at the mall to settle a payment for a lay-by purchase made under Msibi’s name. However, the encounter turned deadly, leaving Msibi lying in a pool of blood while Khumalo fled the scene with another man.

Despite the overwhelming evidence, Khumalo, who is represented by Legal Aid attorney Phumelele Danisa, chose not to testify in his defense and pleaded not guilty to premeditated murder.

    Awaiting Judgment

With the state closing its case, the court is set to deliver judgment on March 24. The brutal nature of the attack and the damning video evidence will likely play a significant role in the final verdict.

The case has drawn significant public attention, highlighting the ongoing issue of gender-based violence in South Africa. Msibi’s murder is yet another tragic reminder of the dangers many women face, even from those they once trusted.

“Itumeleng Khune & Sphelele Criticized for Attending Orlando Pirates Game”

“Itumeleng Khune & Sphelele Criticized for Attending Orlando Pirates Game”

Former Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng “Itu” Khune and his wife, Sphelele, have come under fire after attending a Nedbank Cup match where Orlando Pirates defeated Baroka FC 3-1. Their presence at the game, combined with their choice of black outfits, led to speculation that they were supporting Kaizer Chiefs’ arch-rivals.

    Social Media Uproar
Khune and Sphelele shared photos from their experience at the Soweto Stadium over the weekend, sparking mixed reactions from fans. Given Khune’s two-decade-long association with Kaizer Chiefs, his presence at a Pirates match raised eyebrows among Amakhosi supporters.

Many fans took to Instagram to question Khune’s allegiance. One user asked, “Are you jumping ship, Itu?” while others accused him of betraying Kaizer Chiefs. In response, Khune reassured fans of his loyalty, commenting, “Amakhosi 4 Life.”

Sphelele also fueled discussions by teasing fans with her post, captioning it, “You can tell which team I was supporting.” However, she later clarified that she was merely appreciating good football, stating, “They play good football.” Despite their lighthearted approach, some Kaizer Chiefs fans were not amused.

    Khune’s Legacy with Kaizer Chiefs
Itumeleng Khune’s history with Kaizer Chiefs runs deep. He joined the club’s youth academy in 1999 and made his professional debut in 2004. Over the years, he built a reputation as one of South Africa’s top goalkeepers, serving as the club’s captain and leading them to numerous victories.

Despite his contributions, Khune’s contract with Kaizer Chiefs was not renewed for the 2024/2025 season, leading to speculation about his retirement at the age of 37. While he has not made an official announcement, many believe he has quietly stepped away from professional soccer.

In recognition of his long service, Kaizer Chiefs honored him last year, marking 25 years of dedication to the club. This tribute was a testament to his impact on South African football.

    Life Beyond Soccer
Since stepping away from Kaizer Chiefs, Khune has been focusing on business ventures, including investments in a sports betting agency. His involvement in the sports industry may have influenced his decision to attend the Orlando Pirates match.

Despite the controversy, Khune has consistently expressed his unwavering support for Kaizer Chiefs. His recent social media response reaffirming his commitment to the club further reassures fans of his loyalty.

The Fine Line Between Support and Spectatorship
For former players, attending matches involving rival teams can be a tricky situation. While it is common for retired athletes to appreciate good football, their presence at certain matches can sometimes lead to misunderstandings.

The backlash against Khune and Sphelele highlights the passion South African fans have for their teams. For many supporters, loyalty is everything, and any perceived deviation can result in criticism. However, Khune’s clarification that he remains dedicated to Kaizer Chiefs should help ease tensions.

    Looking Ahead
Despite the recent uproar, Itumeleng Khune appears to be enjoying life beyond the soccer pitch. His legacy at Kaizer Chiefs remains intact, and his reassurance of loyalty should silence critics. For now, he continues to be an influential figure in South African football, whether as a player, entrepreneur, or fan of the sport.
