    Background & Job Description
    Star Retailers, a reputable FMCG group headquartered in Phoenix, Durban, is offering an exciting 12-month Finance Internship opportunity for recent graduates in collaboration with MANCOSA PTY LTD. As a growing supermarket group operating within the fast-paced retail space, Star Retailers provides dynamic exposure to financial operations within the retail value chain.

    Finance Interns will be integral to the finance department, directly reporting to the Group Finance Manager. This internship is designed to provide aspiring financial professionals with the practical experience required to thrive in the finance sector. Interns will assist with reconciliations, data analysis, intercompany processing, fixed asset management, and much more.


    Tasks

    Finance Interns will undertake the following responsibilities:

    • Support the processing of intercompany invoices for internal transactions.
    • Maintain and update the Fixed Asset Register, guided by the Management Accountant.
    • Conduct reconciliations for income, expenses, asset, and liability accounts.
    • Assist in report generation to identify trends and analyze financial data.
    • Offer daily operational support to the Finance Department.
    • Aid the Accounts Payable Accountant with credit applications and various ad hoc administrative duties.
    • Provide general support to both the Financial Controller and Management Accountant.

    This task list is dynamic and may evolve based on business requirements.


    Qualifications

    Eligible candidates must meet the following educational criteria:

    • A completed Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) in Accounting
      or
    • Bachelor of Technology (BTech) in Cost and Management Accounting
    • Basic to intermediate proficiency in MS Word and MS Excel (including workbook creation)

    Experience

    This role is specifically aimed at graduates with no prior work experience or limited internship exposure. Candidates must:

    • Demonstrate a willingness to learn and actively contribute
    • Be adaptable to new systems and financial platforms
    • Show an eagerness to build foundational finance and accounting skills
