Nsikelelo Mthiyane is humbled to star in Sibongile & The Dlaminis.
Nsikelelo Mthiyane has officially landed her first acting role as the lead character in the popular Mzansi Wethu telenovela, “Sibongile & The Dlaminis.” The 21-year-old actress, hailing from Richards Bay, recently took over the role of Sibongile, previously portrayed by Luyanda Zwane in the show’s first season. With her debut already garnering positive feedback from viewers, Mthiyane is poised to make a significant impact in her new role.
Mthiyane’s entry into the world of acting comes after Luyanda Zwane confirmed that she would not be renewing her contract for the upcoming season. The first season of “Sibongile & The Dlaminis” captivated audiences, averaging over two million viewers, making it the most-watched show on Mzansi Wethu. The narrative followed Sibongile as she navigated heartache, familial challenges, and personal growth. As the story continues in the new season, Mthiyane will be tasked with bringing fresh energy to Sibongile’s journey, which promises to reveal more explosive secrets and confrontations.
In her own words, Mthiyane expressed her disbelief at landing such a pivotal role: “I still can’t believe it. I’m a bit anxious. In acting, you usually start as a feature actor, then a supporting role, and then a lead role, but this is my first-ever acting role and it’s a lead.” Despite the pressure, she remains optimistic, stating, “God has given me this role and the tools to carry it.”
Interestingly, acting was not initially part of Mthiyane’s career plan. With a teaching degree and currently pursuing a journalism degree, she found her passion for acting somewhat serendipitously. At the age of 14, she was introduced to auditions for a film, which ignited her interest in the performing arts. Although that particular project faced financial difficulties and was ultimately shelved, Mthiyane’s determination to pursue acting never waned.

Reflecting on her preparation for the role, Mthiyane attended workshops with the production team and conducted thorough research on Sibongile’s character. “We kind of have similar qualities here and there, so it’s not that difficult to relate to her,” she noted. Mthiyane has also drawn inspiration from Zwane’s portrayal of Sibongile, appreciating the depth and life she brought to the character. “I love the way she delivers. I had this problem where I just wanted to say the lines, but she taught me how to give life to those lines,” she shared.
As Mthiyane embarks on this new chapter in her career, she acknowledges the support she has received from the cast and crew, which has bolstered her confidence on set. “That’s the one thing that’s making me strong and gives me the courage to give my best every day,” she remarked.
Fans of “Sibongile & The Dlaminis” can look forward to a captivating season filled with emotional depth and character development as Mthiyane steps into the shoes of Sibongile. With her humble nature and fierce determination, she is set to resonate with audiences and continue the legacy of a character they have come to love. As she aptly put it, “I love the story. I love how humble Sibongile is and how she stands up for herself.”
With her talent and dedication, Nsikelelo Mthiyane is sure to make a lasting impression in the world of television, and viewers eagerly await the unfolding of Sibongile’s story in this new season.
