This initiative aims to bridge the digital divide in communities across South Africa by empowering selected individuals to become trainers in digital literacy. The programme provides a six-month fixed-term contract during which the selected candidates will gain hands-on experience in delivering digital literacy training. Successful applicants will undergo intensive training and will then roll out digital literacy sessions in communities using a structured Learner Management System (LMS).
Job Description:
Digital Ambassadors will serve as catalysts for digital empowerment across selected communities in South Africa. The main goal is to facilitate digital skills development using structured digital literacy modules.
Key duties include:
- Completing introductory digital skills training modules
- Participating in daily training sessions to gain digital literacy competence
- Facilitating digital literacy training to local community members
- Collaborating with municipalities to secure venues for training sessions
- Training learners using the official Learner Management System (LMS)
- Setting and achieving weekly and monthly citizen training targets
- Compiling weekly reports on progress and performance metrics
- Designing and submitting strategic training plans for community organisations, schools, and other groups
Requirements:
Minimum qualification requirements include:
- A National Certificate in Information Technology or Computer Science (NQF Level 2-4) OR
- Grade 12 (Matric Certificate)
Preferred qualifications:
- N6 Certificate or Diploma in Information Technology or any related field
Work experience:
- At least 1 to 2 years of experience in a related role or training capacity
- Experience in community engagement or facilitation is advantageous
Other eligibility requirements:
- Candidates must reside within the designated TVET college catchment areas
- Proven basic digital skills and computer literacy
- Strong communication skills, especially in local languages
- Ability to conduct training and engage with diverse community groups
Role Responsibility:
As a Digital Ambassador under the Ya Rona Digital Programme, you will be responsible for delivering effective and accessible training to local community members. Your responsibilities will include:
- Promoting digital inclusion through structured training
- Facilitating training in both formal and informal settings
- Creating community awareness about the importance of digital literacy
- Ensuring citizens can confidently use digital platforms for personal and professional growth
- Maintaining accurate records of participant training hours and feedback
- Supporting continuous improvement of the training curriculum by providing field feedback
