Muvhango’s Ratings Take a Hit as Viewership Declines

Muvhango’s Ratings Take a Hit as Viewership Declines

Muvhango lost viewers when it debuted in August with new actors. TVSA reports that Muvhango reached 1.325.878 million viewers in July, while BRCSA confirms that it received 1.084.399 million viewers in August.

Viewers of the soapie reveal on X that they preferred watching old episodes in June and July which ended in August.

A fan of the show @Papi_Mphuthi says: “I would wait for 9pm just to watch old season even record those episodes that’s how dope it was back then.”

@DeeJosta wrote: “Old Muvhango boosted those numbers.”

Season 27 premiered on 5 August at 21:00 with actress Leleti Khumalo as Dr Nonhlanhla Ximba and her husband Avhatakali Ramabulana.

Actor Lloyd Nedohe joined the show as Avhatakali while Tyson Mathonsi portrays Sakhile Ximba.

Khumalo’s character is a medical doctor who’s changed profession to business and construction and is CEO of Siyabusa Construction.

She wants to run MMC with ambitions to expand it and is passionate advocate for women’s empowerment.

“Dr Ximba’s enigmatic presence as a construction mogul is set to disrupt the familiar landscape of Muvhango. Paving the way for unprecedented intrigue and groundbreaking storytelling,” reads the press statement.

Sunday Tribune revealed that Muvhango also returned with a new logo, opening sequence and new characters.

Jacqui Hlongwane, who is the acting head of Channel at SABC2 says the public broadcaster, SABC2 is thrilled to support Muvhango in its exciting transformation.

“The show has long been a pillar of our programming. And we eagerly anticipate the infusion of fresh energy and captivating storytelling that Muvhango promises to bring to our viewers,” adds Hlongwane.

Sesotho-speaking actress Liteboho Molise also returned to the SABC2 soapie as Teboho Mukwevho.

Molise bid farewell to the show in 2021 after nearly a decade of portraying her much-loved character.

Actors Lebo Tisane and Wiseman Zitha have also joined the new and revamped cast.
