Mother and boyfriend arrested for murdering a 4-year-oId chiId
The tragic case of a 4-year-old boy’s alleged murder by his biological mother and her boyfriend has sent shockwaves through the community of Boitekong, North West. The incident, which occurred in 2023, has been described as a devastating act of violence against a defenseless child.
According to reports, the 31-year-old mother and her 26-year-old boyfriend were arrested for the alleged murder of the toddler, after the child had reportedly broken a plasma TV while playing in the house. The couple is accused of burying the child’s body in a shallow grave in the bushes on the outskirts of Boitekong.
According to ZiMoja, a relative of the boy’s father, who chose to remain anonymous, revealed that the father had not seen his child since last year. “The mother told the father that their child was staying with her aunt in the Free State. Despite sending money for the boy monthly, the mother always made excuses when he wanted to visit the child,” the relative said.
Subsequent to the incident, the community became increasingly suspicious when they no longer saw the child in the neighborhood. Neighbors had last seen the child in July 2023, and when they began inquiring about his whereabouts, the mother allegedly provided evasive and inconsistent responses.
Concerned residents eventually sought the involvement of their local Councilor, who approached the mother. It was at this point that the mother reportedly confessed to the crime and led the authorities to the shallow grave where the child’s remains were discovered.
The arrests of the mother and her boyfriend have been met with outrage and grief within the Boitekong community, as they grapple with the devastating loss of a young life and the betrayal of trust by those entrusted with the child’s care.
The case serves as a sobering reminder of the importance of vigilance and community involvement in addressing suspected cases of child abuse and neglect, in order to prevent such tragic outcomes from occurring.
The duo is set to appear at the Rustenburg magistrate’s court on Monday. The provincial police commissioner, Lt-Gen Sello Kwena, denounced the incident. Kwena praised the community for working with the police to catch the suspects instead of resorting to vigilante actions. He directed the investigators to make every effort to deliver justice, according to Sunday World
