‘More than a nomination’ — WoodBlock DJs shine with Sama nod

The WoodBlock DJs are beaming with pride after receiving another nod in the music scene.

The duo, Sicelo Nkomo and Mthobisi Vuma, have been nominated in the South African Music Awards (Samas) for Remix of the Year with their Skuta Baba Remix, which brought together the voices of Cassper Nyovest, Kwesta, Buzzi Lee, Tony Dayimane, Kane Keid, and Set Off.

“This is more than a nomination, it’s a celebration of the sound, culture and community South African music represents,” said Sicelo.

“We are honoured to stand alongside such incredible artists and to keep telling our story on bigger stages.”

The duo has also been nominated in the prestigious All Africa Music Awards for Producer of the Year and Best African DJ.

“Our music is about celebrating our culture our community, and the power of collaboration. We hope our fans feel inspired and uplifted by our music, and that it brings people together.”

The Sama nominees across 25 categories were recently unveiled, while the coveted top five categories are set to be revealed this month.

Black Motion  and Sjava secured four nominations and Kelvin Momo has two nominations.

Unati Gwija, Sama spokesperson, said the award ceremony is set to take place in November.

“This year’s nominations form a symphony of South African sound, a playlist that celebrates not only genres, but the journeys behind them,” Unati said.

“It is the wisdom of age meeting the exuberance of youth as emerging voices and established icons go head-to-head across categories. From amapiano trailblazers to jazz virtuosos, gospel powerhouses to hip-hop poets, we are living through a golden era where boundaries blur and music reigns supreme. The Samas have always stood for honouring excellence, and Sama31 is no different. It is bigger, bolder and brimming with brilliance.”
