Background & Job Description

Mondi, a global leader in packaging and paper solutions, is calling on recent Chemical Engineering and Pulp & Paper Technology diploma holders to apply for its dynamic Work Integrated Learning Programme. This six-month intensive programme is designed to enhance theoretical knowledge with practical experience, setting graduates up for success in the manufacturing and industrial sectors.

The programme aims to address future skill needs by developing qualified candidates into competent entry-level operators. Participants will undergo hands-on training in real industrial environments, aligned with Mondi’s production standards and operational excellence.


Tasks

Participants in the Work Integrated Learning Programme will be responsible for a variety of entry-level production and operational tasks, including but not limited to:

  • Navigating SAP and Microsoft-based training platforms
  • Applying basic chemical safety principles in daily tasks
  • Performing housekeeping and pre-start equipment checks
  • Assisting with plant startups and shutdowns
  • Conducting routine checks to minimize machinery or process failures
  • Ensuring compliance with Mondi’s operational safety policies
  • Engaging with the production team to troubleshoot performance issues
  • Performing basic technical troubleshooting and reporting

Qualifications

To be considered for the programme, candidates must meet the following minimum academic and technical requirements:

  • National Diploma in Chemical Engineering or Pulp & Paper Technology
  • Minimum of 60% average pass rate
  • Completion of P1 and P2 practical work experience in a heavy industry setting is advantageous
  • Possession of a valid South African driver’s license

Experience

Although this is an entry-level programme, previous exposure to an industrial or manufacturing environment will be beneficial. Candidates with experience in the following areas will have an added advantage:

  • Familiarity with production equipment and plant operations
  • Experience in chemical safety protocols and procedures
  • Competence in using Microsoft Office and navigating SAP or other enterprise software systems
  • Completion of P1 and P2 practical training in a heavy-duty industry
