L’vovo Counts His Blessings After Tough Journey!
MULTI-award-winning artist L’vovo Derrango has been a Mzansi music household name for years.
The musician, whose real name is Thokozani Ndlovu, has left a lasting impression on the kwaito scene with hits like Bayang’sukela and Resista, which kept the nation dancing.
Life-altering events in December 2022
However, in December 2022, his life changed.
He speaks to Daily Sun, detailing his road to recovery after suffering a stroke and being involved in a horrid car accident.
“I was at Indwendwe, KZN, to perform. When performing my last song, I felt dizzy. Then, I couldn’t feel my left leg. I ran to the stage ramp to hold on to it. Then, paramedics rushed me to hospital,” he said.
Born in Newcastle, KZN, L’vovo considers himself blessed.

His recovery has been nothing short of a miracle.
“It’s been a rough journey, but through God’s grace and support from family and friends, and the doctors, I’m recovering. I’m grateful to God for a second chance. I’m 70-80% recovered from zero. I thank God for another chance. I’m still here,” he said.
But his road to recovery has been long and hard.

He had to accept his situation and focus on healing.
“The biggest challenge is accepting what happened. If you don’t accept it, you can’t fight. I had to put my trust in God and tell myself I’ll make it.”
The value of true friendship
Despite the struggles, he never felt alone.
If this journey has taught him anything, it’s who his real friends are.
“My real friends stood by me. You see your true friends when you’re down and out. Some may not visit, but they always check-in. I know who’s really there for me now.”
As a performer, taking a break was difficult. Fans missed him, and he missed them.
His health had to come first.
“I’m taking a few gigs but listening to my doctors. I’m not fully healed yet, so I can’t overwork myself.
“I need money, yes, but I also need to take care of myself. I’m fighting recovery so that I can go back,” he said.

The musician revealed he’s working on an EP with Zakes Bantwini.
“It’s a nice feeling working with someone you started with, someone who always supports you, someone who’s always there in your dark days. I’m humbled.
“Right now, we’re about to release our first single. I think it’ll be out end of March.
“I’m still busy with physio and all that, but I can safely say I’m grateful for a second chance.”
Asked if his health influenced losing industry friends, L’vovo said not everyone would turn their back on you.
“When you’re down, that’s when you see your true friends. But I’m grateful to those who are there, the likes of Zakes and Danger, among others.
“Even those who can’t come physically, through their messages I’m thankful. This helps me do self-introspection and find myself again. There’s a difference between people you know and friends. Now, I can differentiate the two,” he said.
L’vovo remains deeply grateful to his fans.
