K Mat still keeping it real!
SINGER and DJ speaks about her biggest moment in the entertainment industry.
Koketso Mathabathe, known as K Mat, shares a major career highlight: performing at the Afro Nation Festival.
She said this momentous event marked her journey in the entertainment industry and inspired her to aim higher.
The 26-year-old from Tshwane made waves when she performed at Afro Nation Portugal in 2024, the world’s biggest Afro-music festival.
Speaking with Daily Sun, K Mat revealed that the festival opened many doors and was a confidence-booster.
“Afro Nation was my biggest performance last year. The energy was insane, and the love from the crowd was unreal. Seeing my name on the Phase 1 line-up this year feels surreal,” she said.
The experience drove K Mat to elevate her craft. She’s set to release her first solo EP in April 2024.
“That experience pushed me to work harder. My new project is my first solo, independent EP, so I’m putting my heart into it,” said K Mat.
Though receiving attention, K Mat said she doesn’t feel like a celebrity and prefers it that way.
“Honestly, I don’t feel famous. I’m just super chilled and sometimes forget I’m K Mat. People recognise me, and it’s still weird.
“At the end of the day, we’re all people trying to enjoy music. That’s what matters,” she said.
