JAN BRAAI BREAKS SILENCE ON ‘RACISM ALLEGATIONS’
Amid the initial negative press, Food Lover’s Market released a clip rubbishing claims of racism.
Other South Africans also defended Jan Braai, accusing media outlets of “race-baiting” and “click-baiting”.
Speaking to Good Things Guy, Jan shared his perspective on the incident: “We need to focus on our country’s positivity. We can’t let things divide us, especially things that are not true.
“We are stronger together! I think we need to spend less time fighting with each other online and more time together, united around a lekker braai”.
VIRAL VIDEO: WHAT HAPPENED?
In a clip widely shared on social media, Jan Braai offered free “Kerriewors rolls” to Food Lover’s Market shoppers in Cape Town.
The video showed the braai enthusiast handing out food to several white men and women and even giving gifts to children. In the background, a coloured male seemingly waits for his turn.
The video cut off before the male was given his boerewors roll.
In the comments section, many South Africans have accused Jan Braai of being “racist.”
However, Food Lover’s Market claimed that the clip was taken out of context. The retailer also provided CCTV footage, which rubbished the allegations of racism.
In the clip, Jan Braai is seen handing out his “Kerriewors roll” to the coloured male in a blue tracksuit.
