Khune Rejected A R960k DEAL From This Club 1Once again, the loyalty of veteran Kaizer Chiefs’ shotstopper Itumeleng Khune was put the test during the close season, as reports have emerged that he was offered a spine-tingling deal from an overseas club which he outrightly rejected in favour of a stay at Chiefs.

According to a credible report by KickOff.com, Khune whose contract with Chiefs expired last month before the club confirmed a two year renewal yesterday, is understood to have been a subject of a three year deal from United Arab Emirates giants, Shabab Al Ahli.

It is understood the Middle Eastern club put a three year offer with a salary twice what he currently earns at Chiefs – as per the South African, Khune makes a whopping R460,000 per month at the Naturena-based club.

Ultimately, he would have been getting a sweet R960k per month for the next 3 years if he had jumped onto the ship.

A source close to Khune, has told KickOff.com that the 34-years-old had already agreed a deal in principle to join the club, as he had also conducted medical tests to facilitate the deal. But, he performed an eleventh hour somersault to stay at Chiefs when they put a 2 year extension.

“The deal was almost done. All the requirements for him to move to the UAE had been completed. They rate him so highly and they were looking forward to having him as their number one keeper this coming season,” the source said.

Despite Khune’s seeming loyalty to Chiefs, a few seasons ago, he came close to leaving the club after he was accused of demanding a huge salary by the club, and cross-province rivals Mamelodi Sundowns had been credited with interest.
