Here Is An Update Regarding Reopening Of Schools On Monday 1As the country is still in the third wave of Covid-19 with new infections on the rise, schools had to close early and were supposed to reopen on the 19th of July 2021. However, due to the civil unrest, school reopening had to be delayed for yet another week.

The minister of Basic Education Angie Motshekga was determined to keep schools opened and maintained that primary school learners are supposed to attend classes every day when learners come back from the winter holidays for the third term.

Schools are supposed to reopen on Monday the 26th of July 2021, but Motshekga will be updating the public regarding her department’s response to Covid-19 and the readiness of schools. According to a statement from the education department, Motshekga will have a media briefing on Saturday 24th July 2021.

Motshekga’s briefings are always two days before school reopens. She always seems to leave important briefings until the 11th hour when learners are ready to go back to school.

She seems to be happy with her department’s vaccine rollout. When the rollout started, the minister says that teachers and school staff came in numbers but had a slight problem when some teachers from Gauteng refused to get vaccinated.

To date, more than half a million teachers and school staff have been vaccinated. The roll-out began on the 23rd of June 2021 and ended on the 14th of July 2021. Other than that, her department had to be ordered by the court to set plans in motion to feed hungry learners.
